I live in Florida. Hurricanes are something we know well. When the news reporters show the ocean waves and winds as hurricanes approach land, the waves crash and beat against anything close to the ocean. In these days with the pandemic called Coronavirus, our live scan feel just as turbulent as the force of a hurricane. It seems as if minute by minute, news report by news report, information changes and our lives are completely altered.
In the graphic above, the large rock in the water is a great reminder of Christ as our Rock. When storms of life come and the water rages and splashes against the rock, the rock is firm, steady, and the rock still remains when the storm abates. When the storms of our life rage against us, Jesus is a firm and steady rock that holds us firm through the storm. He is the firm and secure foundation on which we stand as He leads us by the hand through every storm we face. Jesus – who walked on water in the midst of a storm – He is our rock. Because Jesus is our rock, we don’t have to fear the storms – we know that Jesus is in control of every storm – even the storm they are calling the Coronavirus. This doesn’t mean that we can ignore the warnings. We should do everything we can to protect ourselves and our families from getting this virus. But it does mean that we don’t have to operate out of panic mode. Instead, we can take each day as it comes, surrender the day to God, and live for His glory. God never promised the storms wouldn’t come, but He did promise to be there with us through the storm. As we lean into Him as the waves and storms toss us about, we can seek His face, pray, repent, and ask Him to eradicate the virus and heal the sick. We can also pray that God use this virus which Satan means for our harm and turn it into something for our good – like a national revival that causes our nation to once again seek God, repent of sins, and live according to God’s commandments.
Below, you’ll find one of my favorite songs by Vertical Worship, The Rock Won’t Move. Here are the lyrics and a link to YouTube where you can be reminded that God is the Rock in our lives that won’t move no matter what storms come in your life — not even coronavirus.
When the ground beneath my feet gives way
And I hear the sound of crashing waves
All my world is washing out to sea
I’m hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of the truth
That You are holding tighter still to meThe Rock won’t move and His word is strong
The Rock won’t move and His love can’t be undone
The Rock won’t move and His word is strong
The Rock won’t move and His love can’t be undone
The Rock of our SalvationMy hope is in the promise of Your blood
My support within the raging flood
Even in the tempest, I can sing
I’m hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of Your truthThat You are holding tighter still to meThe Rock won’t move and His word is strong
The Rock won’t move and His word is strongThe Rock won’t move and His love can’t be undone
The Rock won’t move and His word is strong
The Rock won’t move and His love can’t be undone
The Rock of our SalvationWoah, woah
Woah, the Rock of our salvationOn Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
The Rock won’t move, the Rock won’t move
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging graceThe Rock won’t move, the Rock won’t moveThe Rock won’t move and His word is strong
The Rock won’t move and His love can’t be undone
The Rock won’t move and His word is strong
The Rock won’t move and His love can’t be undoneThe Rock of our SalvationLead me to the RockThe Rock that is higher
That is greater
The Rock of our Salvation
Lead me to the Rock
The Rock that is Stronger
That is Stronger
The Rock that is Jesus
The Rock that is Jesus
He will never move

Father, thank you for being our sure foundation. A God of truth, perfect in all Your ways, a God of justice, mercy, and righteousness. Thank you for always being with us in every storm, leading and guiding us to make us more like you as we learn to trust you and grow in faith. Thank you for being a rock that won’t move.
Don’t forget to learn this week’s memory verse:
Memorize and hide in your heart one memory verse each week in 2020. If you didn’t start the challenge at the beginning of the year, just jump in now and be sure to sign up to get our weekly Memory verse in your email so you don’t miss a week.
In 2020 our emphasis is on revival for America with three key words: revive, renew, and redeem. You will begin to see the elements of our website and posts reflect this emphasis. We hope you’ll join us in praying for God to pour out the Holy Spirit with a mighty rushing wind of revival for our nation and around the world.
Our key verse for revival is 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. For the past few weeks, we have been focusing on repentance. This week, we look at the spiritual transformation that takes place when we surrender our heart to God.
This week’s memory verse:
Exodus 15:26
“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.
Meditate and apply:
Will you commit to praying with us in 2020 that God will revive His people, renew our faith, and redeem our land? We feel such an urgency and desperation for revival. If God is moving your heart for revival, write your revival prayer in the comments along with your state or country.
