Faith to see the Possible with God
Faith to Get us out of this hot mess!
A fireman was telling a kindergarten class what to do in case of a fire. He said, “First, go to the door and feel the door to see if it’s hot. Then fall to your knees. Does anyone know why you should fall to your knees?” One little boy replied, “Sure, to start praying to ask God to get us out of this hot mess!” Someone must have been teaching this kindergartner about seeking God by faith.
Do we pray with faith that believes God will come through?
Whether we find ourselves in a hot mess or need a miracle or asking for God to meet a big need, or asking for God to send a revival to America, we often bring such requests to God in prayer, but do we really pray believing that God will come through? The “mountain” in these verses is a metaphor for accomplishing an impossible task. But what is impossible for us, is totally doable to God. There is nothing impossible for Him. The entire world was created with just his spoken word. So whatever your “big” thing is – God’s got it.
Faith doesn’t see the impossible
When God asks us to do something that seems humanly impossible, do you only see the impossible? If so, know that God only sees the possible and if God has called you to the task, then nothing will be impossible. If the task is God’s plan – then nothing will stop it. In His time and in His divine plan, everything will occur just as he plans. Faith doesn’t see the impossible – it sees what God can do before He does it.
If you have faith of a mustard seed
We often read verse 20 and many times we quote this verse about having the faith of a mustard seed, but we stop reading at the end of verse 20 and ignore verse 21. The promise that nothing will be impossible is a conditional promise. See the first word in verse 20? “IF.” That means there is a condition to nothing being impossible. We must have faith – even just the tiny size of a mustard seed.
Big needs require prayer and fasting
Jesus said, that these kinds of requests only occur by prayer and fasting. Fasting strengthens prayer. It is used to seek God’s guidance, deliverance or protection. It can be used to express repentance or to humble ourselves before God. And it can be an act of worship or demonstration of our love for God. When we are seeking God to do something that seems impossible to man, fasting and prayer helps us make sure that those request are aligned with His will.
Nothing that is believed by faith and in the wisdom and love of God, surrendered to His will is beyond what God can do through our prayers. Do you truly have the faith that God can do what you’re asking Him to do?
