Preparing for July 5th: A Day of Fasting and Prayer for Revival

2 Chronicles 7:14 provides an outline for revival. Last week we focused on humbling ourselves before God. This week our focus is seeking God’s face. God wants us to seek Him as if we are thirsty in a dry, parched land where there is no water. He wants us to seek Him as if we will faint if we don’t have more of Him.

Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.” If you’ve been feeling a thirsty for the presence of God in your life, the good news is God wants to be found. He isn’t hiding. We just have to want seek Him enough that we seek Him with all our heart and soul. It can’t be halfhearted or wishy-washy. We can’t want Him today, but not tomorrow. It has to be with our whole heart.

With the state of our nation and our world today, how bad do things have to get before we have a desire to seek God with our whole heart? What does searching for God with all our heart and soul look like? How do we search for God in such a way that we see revival in America? David describes if for us in Psalm 63.

Psalm 63 – Seeking Revival by Earnestly Seeking God

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth;
they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals.
But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped.

Seven things that occur when we seek God.

David was a life-long seeker of God. When he wrote Psalm 63, David has been king for many years and his own son had turned against him. David had had to flee into the wilderness to escape Absalom. But whether a shepherd boy tending his flock, a teen killing a giant, a king on the throne or in the wilderness, David was a life long seeker of God! He never stopped thirsting in his pursuit of God. Here are seven things we can learn from Psalm 63 about seeking God:

  • When we seek God with all our heart, our focus has to be on God. (vs 1)
  • When we seek God with all our heart, we reconnect with God. (vs 2)
  • When we seek God with all our heart, we are spiritually fed and satisfied. (vs 5)
  • When we seek God with all our heart, we are carried to the shadow of His wings. (vs 7)
  • When we seek God with all our heart, we renew our faith and cling to Him. (vs 8)
  • When we seek God with all our heart, our confidence and trust in God is reaffirmed. (vs 9-10)
  • When we seek God with all our heart, we can rejoice in God, even in the wilderness. (vs 11)

Join us this week as we prepared for a day of fasting and prayer for revival for our nation by seeking God with all your heart.

If we want to see revival in America, then God’s people must humble themselves and seek God’s face.

Will you pray and fast with us and lead your
church to pray for God to send a revival to America?

Do you serve in ministry? Great! The self-care blogs are here for you.

In this series of blogs, we breakdown why people in ministry need to practice self care. We explain the differences between stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue. Drawing from both psychology and Biblical principles, we teach self-care to keep ministry servants living out God’s call as a missionary, small group leader, worship pastor, nursery worker, facility/maintenance staff, religious non-profit staff, or any other ministry staff, volunteer, or lay-leader. Regardless of the ministry service God called you to, self-care is crucial to continuing God’s work.
