Today we invite the people of God to join us in fasting and prayer for a revival in America. Beginning at 6 am we will be giving a focus area of prayer for each hour until 10 pm. Please join us each hour in prayer. During this part of the day, we are focusing on repentance.
11 am Revival prayer focus:
This hour we are continuing our focus on repentance.
Revival begins with God’s people.
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways…”
In the last hour we focused on the Ten Commandments and our need of repentance where we have not obeyed them. Let’s look at another scripture. Psalm 50:16-17 says, “But God says to the wicked: “What right do you have to recite My statutes and to take My covenant on your lips? You hate instruction and turn your back on My words.”
Hating God’s Word
According to this verse if we hate God’s instructions or ignore His instructions we have no right to speak of His instructions. Do we need to experience repentance for hating or ignoring God’s instructions? Maybe you don’t hate God’s instructions – but is there a part of the Bible you don’t like? David wrote in Psalm 119:97, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.” Do you love God’s Word like that?
Ignoring God’s Word
We also learn that wickedness includes ignoring God’s word. Is there something you feel that God is calling you to do, but rather than obeying Him you give Him excuses. Is He calling you to step out in faith, but your fear is stronger than your faith?
Ignoring 2 Chronicles 7:14
God has given us the steps to revival and healing our nation in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Repentance is one of those steps. If we choose to neglect these instructions and are spiritually apathetic and lazy or chose to remain stubborn and prideful, our land will not be healed. As a result many will die lost in their sins and spend eternity in hell. That is wickedness on our part.
The first half of 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us what we must do in order for God to do his part, which is the 2nd half of the verse. So in this verse we learn that we (God’s people) are to humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways (which is repentance). If we refuse to do these things, so that God will hear us, forgive us, and heal our land, then we are guilty of wicked ways.
Turn from your wicked ways
The idea of repentance or turning from your wicked ways is like making a U-turn. When you realize you are going the wrong way or passed the placed you were going to, you make a U-turn and go in the opposite direction. If we U-turn from our wicked ways, then we turn our hearts back towards God and begin to live according to His way and His will. Take some time now and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any wickedness in your heart where your have either hated or ignored God’s Word or what’s He’s asked you to do. Then turn and go in the opposite direction, which leads you into God’s presence.
“The coming revival must begin with a great prayer revival. It is in the closet, with the door shut, that the sound of abundant revival will be first heard. An increase in the secret prayer of ministers and members will be the sure herald of blessing.”Andrew Murray
Join us in prayer:
Father, how I acknowledge to you I am a person of wicked ways. I can be guilty of picking and choosing from your Word what I will obey when its convenient for me to do so, and ignore when it isn’t. I can be guilty of ignoring the parts of your Word that I don’t like.
Father, I seek your forgiveness for my wicked ways and right now I turn to you. Help me, by your power, to live out all of your Word and to find joy and blessing in obedience.
Father our nation is neck-deep in wickedness. How we’ve totally thrown out your Word in favor of living our own way. We intercede on behalf of our nation and ask that your Word become life to our nation and that Your Word will be sweeter than honey. Return us to a nation that follows Your Word.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
