Fasting & Prayer for Revival: Sin of Redefining Marriage

Today we invite the people of God to join us in fasting and prayer for a revival in America. Beginning at 6 am we will be giving a focus area of prayer for each hour until 10 pm. Please join us each hour in prayer. In these afternoon hours we are interceding on behalf of America and its national sins. This hour we are focusing on the sin of “redefining” marriage.

5 pm Revival prayer focus:

This hour we are interceding on behalf of America for the sin of redefining marriage.

Revival begins with God’s people.

Man has consistently thrown out God’s rule book so they can live the way they want to. They want to stamp out God’s laws. Remove them from prominent places and pretend like they don’t exist. The only problem with this disillusioned philosophy is that God’s Word will stand forever. In Matthew 24:35, Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” And on judgement day when we stand before God, it will His rules that govern His justice. Since God’s Word will never pass away, we cannot change it to suit ourselves and enable to us to live without guilt. In God’s eyes there is no redefining marriage. He has already defined it. It wasn’t up for discussion or presented to the human race to vote on. God defined it. It was done. And it remains done for all of time.

Redefining marriage doesn’t negate God’s definition of marriage

God defines marriage in Genesis 2:24, which says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

The idea is holding on to a rare, precious, and valuable treasure. The husband enfolds his wife into his heart and it is his joy to be identified as her husband. God tasked Adam with name all the creatures that God had created. In doing so, God was teaching Adam that there wasn’t a help mate for him out of everything God had created. He was the only one of his kind. Every other creature had a mate to correspond with it. Adam did not. So God puts Adam to sleep, takes a rib from him and created Eve. As Adam wakes us he says, “this at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.” Eve, the woman, was his counterpart. She had been created just for Adam and he held her fast. He wasn’t going to let her go. He was wholeheartedly devoted to her.

One flesh

To become one flesh simply means that two separate lives are joined together to become one live in which they share and do life together. There should not be his and hers anything. Their individual selfish thoughts become “us” thoughts. They share one life, one bed, one budget, one family name, etc. They do not put up barriers and walls. Instead they share in total openness and solidarity until death separates them.

There is no redefining marriage

The Biblical view of marriage is one man and one woman until death us to part. Any other way is sin. To remove the Biblical definition of marriage, removes the gospel message out of the picture that marriage represents. The entire Bible is the love story of God for the people He created. This is why Christians are called the “Bride of Christ.” Marriage is the display of Christ and his Bride in love together. A god-centered marriage is a testimony of the gospel message. Any attempt at redefining marriage is like look at God (who created and instituted marriage) in the face and saying, “Man you don’t know what you’re doing.” How could man be so pious?

America has thrown away is Christian heritage

With every law passed that moves us away from God, American has thrown away its rich Christian heritage. It can write in laws that say homosexual marriage is “legal” but doing so doesn’t make it cease from being sin. God’s laws and His rules will always stand. Sadly, the further we move away from our Christian heritage the more violence, crime, hate, and division our nation experiences. How far do we have to go until God’s people humble themselves and pray for this nation?

“The coming revival must begin with a great prayer revival. It is in the closet, with the door shut, that the sound of abundant revival will be first heard. An increase in the secret prayer of ministers and members will be the sure herald of blessing.”

Andrew Murray

Join us in prayer:

Father, you said in your word that homosexuality is an abomination to you. And yet our government has legalized abominable marriages. God, we intercede on behalf of our nation and seek your forgiveness. God we pray for those who are living homosexual lives that they would not be blinded by the lies of Satan and that your truth will be revealed to them. Father, we pray that you break the power and chains of sin in their lives. Show them the glory of your way. Our human courts can rule in favor of redefining marriage, but your Word will stand forever and those who passed the law and those who live in a homosexual relationship of any kind are guilty of sin. And so God, we stand before you, a guilty nation and humbly seek your help to restore marriage to what you planned it to be.

Father, we are here. The people called by your name. Today, we come to you brokenhearted, acknowledging how we, your people, have allowed this nation to turn so far away from you. And today, we ask you to revive our hearts. Revive your Church. Revive our homes, families, and marriages. Move among us. We invite you to be Lord in each one of us.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
