John 5:13 – That you may know

dec 3 John 5 13 know

What is it you’re hoping to get for Christmas this year? Whatever it might be, that kind of hope is an unsure hope. You have no guarantee that you’ll get it. I can hope that Brian will get me one of those handy I-robot vacuums (Hint, hint, Mr. Bruce!) or a number of other things on my very long “wish list,” but that doesn’t mean that is what he will choose for me. I know he enjoys getting me gifts that I want but the truth is my list is so long (and usually stays long!) that no one person (at least not in my circle of friends and family) could ever get them all. Brian will choose gifts according to our budget and such.

Thankfully, God doesn’t have to look across all of planet earth and choose who will have eternal life. His grace is unending and His offer of salvation is free. He doesn’t have to “budget” it out. Salvation is for every woman, man, boy, and girl. It is for every race, every nation. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will be saved.” The hope that we have as Christians in our salvation is a sure hope. We can count on it. Romans 10:13 tells us that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. All we have to do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God and accept His free gift of salvation.

The most wonderful thing about this time of year is the baby in a manger that gives us an unmovable, steadfast, unwavering hope in His gift to us…eternal life. Will you spend a few moments today thanking Him for the surety we have through His sacrificial life, death, and resurrection?
