When you face trials, suffering, illnesses, problems in your marriage or with children, do you turn away from God? Do you blame Him?What about when you are guilty of sin? Does the shame of letting God down make you hide from Him like Adam and Eve did? What about now with the pandemic Coronavirus? Do you panic or lean on God and trust Him? It is when the trials of life come that our faith shows its true colors.
Israel’s greatest and most repetitive sin was turning away from God and towards idolatry. God expects us to serve Him alone. We should refuse anything that lures us away from God. In fact, we should cling to Him – hold fast – not ever let Him go. But what does it mean to “cling to God?”
In 2 Kings 18:5-6, we find that Hezekiah “trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor who were before him. For he held fast to the Lord: he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.” Clinging to God, means clinging to His commandments, even in a world where they want to toss those commandments out the window and live however they want. Clinging to God means trusting Him – even when you’re not sure of what God is up to and when you can’t see how He is working in your life. Clinging to God means you never stop following Him even if you’re the only one walking in His footsteps.
Because Hezekiah clung to God, verse 7 tells us that “The Lord was with him; he prospered wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.” Clinging to God isn’t always easy. Sometimes it calls for us to stand up against the norm to do what God says – even if it seems crazy at the time, like building an ark no where near water when you don’t even have an idea of what rain is. Sometimes, clinging to God is going where He sends you even if you have no idea where “where” is but it means leaving everything and everyone behind to go there.
So what do you do in the trails, difficult times? What do you do when you’re guilty of sin? What do you do when God calls you to stand up for Him, even when it means standing up against the world? Do you run into His embrace and cling to Him, willing to follow Him no matter the cost? If not, then consider if you are like Israel and creating idols by putting something before God.
God, may we cling to you every moment of every day. May we boldly stand up for you, proclaim your holy name and follow your commands, even in a world that would quickly and easily toss You aside.

Join us in 52 days of prayer as each day we pray for a different state. Commit to one day of fasting on the day we unite in prayer for your state. On the day we pray for your state, get a group of your Christian family and friends together via phone or video conference and lead a prayer meeting for your sate. As you pray each day pray for the following:
- Pray for God to remove the Coronavirus from that state. We will pray for states in order of most affected to least affected as reported on the World Health Organization Website.
- Pray for God to heal each person who has the virus in the state for which we are praying
- Pray for the family members who have lost loved ones due to the virus. Ask God to comfort them and to make His presence known to them.
- Pray for God to humble the hearts of His people and that they will seek His face with all their heart, mind, and soul
- Pray for repentant hearts that will confess any sin and to be willing to turn from sin and set their minds on Christ
- Ask God to hear us from Heaven, to forgive our sin (both individually and nationally) and heal our land
- Invite God to be Lord in our nation, our government, and in our homes

Don’t forget to learn this week’s memory verse:
Memorize and hide in your heart one memory verse each week in 2020. If you didn’t start the challenge at the beginning of the year, just jump in now and be sure to sign up to get our weekly Memory verse in your email so you don’t miss a week.
In 2020 our emphasis is on revival for America with three key words: revive, renew, and redeem. You will begin to see the elements of our website and posts reflect this emphasis. We hope you’ll join us in praying for God to pour out the Holy Spirit with a mighty rushing wind of revival for our nation and around the world.
Our key verse for revival is 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. For the past few weeks, we have been focusing on repentance. This week, we look at the spiritual transformation that takes place when we surrender our heart to God.
This week’s memory verse:
2 Chronicles 20:9
‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’
Meditate and apply:
Will you commit to praying with us in 2020 that God will revive His people, renew our faith, and redeem our land? We feel such an urgency and desperation for revival. If God is moving your heart for revival, write your revival prayer in the comments along with your state or country.
