Mark 4:21 – This Little Light of Mine

Feb 22 Mark 4 21 kjv

A popular children’s song says:

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

The next verses says, “Hide it under a bushel? No! I’m gonna let it shine.” Followed by “Don’t let Satan blow it out, I’m gonna let it shine,” The light that is referred to in this song and in the Mark 4:21 is the light of Jesus. In John 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” In Matthew 5:14, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.” Jesus expects us to let our lights shine. In other words, the dark, lost world should see the light of Jesus shining so that it draws them to Him. We don’t pay the electric bill and then sit in the darkness anymore than those in Jesus day would have bought a candle only to place it under a basket where it is not able to illuminate the dark. Jesus didn’t purchase us with the cost of His life so that we could leave out lights hidden and bring them out only when we are safely surrounded by other Christians. Lights are meant to be seen. They are meant to guide our way when it is dark. And the light of Christ is meant to shine through us so that those looking for Him are able to find Him. How can you let your light shine today?
