Memorize & Meditate

scripture memory graphic

Each week we will post a scripture to challenge you to hide God’s Word in your heart. Commit it to memory, meditate on it and apply it to your life.

Luke 16:15

You are those who justify yourselves before men but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

 Meditate and apply:

  1. Is there some sin you struggle with that you attempt to justify because the world sees it is okay?
  2. Do you use the world’s standards or God’s standards to set your moral and spiritual compass?
  3. The world may see us as “good” but God knows our hearts. How would He see us?
  4. What are some things that the world might “highly esteem” but God would see as an abomination?
  5. We cannot serve both the world and God. Jesus told the Pharisees that their desire to be “esteemed among men” was an abomination to God. God does not approve of the world’s values so if we set our standards based on the world’s classification of right and wrong, we will never live up to God’s expectations. We should never settle for anything less than God’s standards.
  6. 1 Samuel 12:24 says, “Above all, fear the Lord and worship Him faithfully with all your heart; consider the great things He has done for you.”
  7. Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.” And then in verses 5-10 Paul tells us: “Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, God’s wrath comes on the disobedient, and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. But now you must also put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator.
