Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him. If you long for revival in America (or your nation) we invite you to reflect on these daily verses and join us in praying for revival.

Today’s Bible verse for Revival

From The Message Bible:

He looked for a crop of justice and saw them murdering each other. He looked for a harvest of righteousness and heard only the moans of victims.

The Need for Revival

The need for revival is due to the condition of the hearts of the people in our nation. When God looks at our nation does He see justice and righteousness or does He see murder and hear the cries of the victims?

As a nation, do we respect the lives of all people as uniquely and wonderfully made creation of God? If you think we do, then look up the number of people murdered in your city, state, and our country this year. If you think we do, consider the number of babies that were murdered through abortion this year. There should be no division between races or hatred towards any person. Yes, we need a revival.

What the Bible says regarding anger and murder

  • For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. James 1:20
  • Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. Psalm 37:8
  • Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9
  • Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11
  • A man of quick temper acts foolishly, and a man of evil devices is hated. Proverbs 14:7
  • A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression. Proverbs 29:22
  • What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. James 4:1-2
  • Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land. Psalm 37:7-9
  • Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer. 1 John 3:15

God hears the cries of victims

In Genesis, we find the first murder recorded in the Bible when Cain killed his brother, Abel. In that account, God comes to Cain and says, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.” From a legal definition of “murderer” many of us would not be found guilty. But when we look at 1 John 3:15 and read that everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, would God find us guilty?

It’s a problem of the heart

Matthew 15:18-19 says, “But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds”

We need new, clean hearts…We need revival

If we want to see a revival, we need to pray along with the psalmist and cry out to God, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10) In Ezekiel 36:26, God says, “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

A heart of stone is one that has become calloused and hardened to the sin around us. It is a heart that has become complacent to the things of God. It is a heart that no longer sees sin the way God does. A heart of stone will make excuses for sin. It become angry and defensive when confronted with sin.

A heart of flesh is one that loves God above all else. It is a heart that is willing to be molded and shaped by God. It is a heart that is contrite and repentant when confronted with sin. A heart of flesh is a heart that is obedient to the will of God, no matter the costs.

Praying for Revival

Ask God to convict us for how our heart has deceived us and how He might find us guilty. Ask him to create within you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you. And ask Him to give you a new heart and spirit, to remove your heart of stone give you a heart of flesh.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
