Today’s Bible verse for Revival
From The Message Bible:
Doom! They’ve run away from home.
Now they’re really in trouble! They’ve defied me.
And I’m supposed to help them
while they feed me a line of lies?
Instead of crying out to me in heartfelt prayer,
they whoop it up in bed with their whores,
Gash themselves bloody in their sex-and-religion orgies,
but turn their backs on me.
I’m the one who gave them good minds and healthy bodies,
and how am I repaid? With evil scheming!
They turn, but not to me—
turn here, then there, like a weather vane.
The Need for Revival
How our nation has strayed from God and godly principles. We have rebelled and turned our backs on God and failed to live according to His Word. The world around us speaks lies about Him. They have fallen for the lies of Satan and believed them. They would change what God’s Word says so that they can live in their sin without being confronted. God patiently waits to redeem us and forgive us, but we have chosen the lies over His love, grace, and truth. When we do cry out to God, it is not from the heart, but from selfishness that desires God do something we want him to do and then get angry when he does not.
What the Bible says about straying from God
- But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. Isaiah 59:2
- There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Proverbs 14:12
- Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die. Ezekiel 33:11
- All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6
- The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
- “Return, O faithless sons; I will heal your faithlessness.” “Behold, we come to you, for you are the Lord our God. Jeremiah 3:22
Because we have strayed from God we need to experience revival
From Adam and Eve in the Garden to today, people have been straying away from God and choosing to live the way of the world over the way of God. Paul tells us in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God does not want anyone to perish. He waits to redeem each and every one of us. That is why He sent Jesus into our world – to save us from our sins.
Romans 10:9-10 says, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Salvation is God’s free gift to us, we just have to reach out and accept it by confessing our sins and ask Jesus to save us. Then He becomes the Lord of our life and our hearts are changed from hard, black hearts of sin to redeemed hearts washed white as snow in the life-giving blood of Jesus.
Praying for Revival
Take time to examine your own heart. Are their areas of your life where you have strayed away from God? Confess it to Jesus and ask him to forgive you. If you have never trusted in Jesus as your Savior – today is the day of salvation. This Christmas season, will you reach out and accept God’s free gift to you?
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
