A Rebellious and defiled Nation
Jerusalem is described in these verses as defiled and oppressing. It has become spiritually polluted through idolatry and injustice. America, too, has become defiled and oppressing as it allows same-sex marriages and and abortion to be legal. It has defiled itself with the way of the world and rejected the way of God. America listens to no voice, including God’s, but its own and she does not accept correction. Rather than trusting God, America trusts in itself and its military might. She refuses to draw near to her God.
From The Message Bible:
“Doom to the rebellious city, the home of oppressors—Sewer City! The city that wouldn’t take advice, wouldn’t accept correction, Wouldn’t trust God, wouldn’t even get close to her own god!.” — Zephaniah 3:1-2 (MSG)
The Need for Revival
- Pray for our leaders and law-makers to repent of the godless laws they have passed and to return our nation to honoring and serving God.
- Pray that the rebellious hearts in America would seek God with all their heart, mind, and soul.
- Ask God to cleanse us of our defilement and that as a nation we would listen to Him and trust in Him.
Praying for Revival
Father, we acknowledge that our sin has polluted and defiled our nation. We pray for the leaders of this nation, that your Holy Spirit would convict them of the laws that have been passed that are abominations to you and they would eradicate such laws and return our nation to honoring you. We intercede for every rebellious and hard heart that would stamp you out of this nation. Cause them to seek you, O God with all their heart, mind, and soul. As we bow before you praying for a revival in America, we humbly ask you to cleanse us of any way we have defiled ourselves as a nation. Give America ears that listen to You and a heart that trusts in You.
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
