Today’s Bible verse for Revival
Psalm 80 is a community lament for a situation in which the people received harsh treatment from their enemies as a result of Israel not being faithful to God. Because of their unfaithfulness, God was angry with their prayers. As a result God brought difficult times and sorrow upon them to the extent that they had become an object of contention for their neighbors and their enemies laughed at them.
Could God be angry with the prayers of his people today?
America was founded on Biblical principles, but we have not been faithful to keep those. We’ve traded them out in favor of living however we wanted. Just as Israel was unfaithful to God, so we as a nation have been unfaithful to God. Throughout history when nations are unfaithful to God, God eventually brings judgement, often in the form of difficult and hard times. There’s nothing like a trial to make use remember God and call out to him for help. The question we need to ask today is, “How difficult do things have to get before we repent and call on the name of God once again?”
The Need for Revival
- Identify in your own life your faithfulness and commitment to God.
- How is our nation demonstrating its unfaithfulness to God?
- Ask God to forgive us individually and nationally for our unfaithfulness to him.
- Ask God to draw us back to him and stir up a zeal within our hearts to glorify him.
- Then ask God to restore us and to shine his face upon us so that we can be saved from this pandemic and the division and strife that is destroying our nation.
Praying for Revival
Father, we confess to you how easily our hearts stray and become unfaithful to you. As a result of our own unfaithfulness to you, our nation has become unfaithful too. Forgive us, Lord. Draw us back to you. Give us a zeal to know you, to glorify you, to be a light to the rest of the world of your love for us. Restore us, O God. Let your face shine, that we may be saved!
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
