Today’s Bible verse for Revival
When Paul was writing to Timothy, Timothy was a young pastor and Paul was mentoring and training him, giving valuable advice on how to be God’s servant. But Paul’s words to Timothy are true for every one of us. We all need to flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. We do not need to get caught up in foolish, ignorant controversies that breed quarrels – that’s the work of Satan because if we are fighting amongst ourselves, we are too busy to lead others to Christ and we destroy our testimony for Christ. Instead, we need to gently lead the lost to the saving knowledges of Jesus Christ, be able to teach them the truth of God’s Word, and pray that God will bring them to repentance and everlasting life.
What controversies have you gotten caught up in?
Riots, such as storming our nation’s capital that occurred in 2021, is a good example of how controversies breed quarrels and we all know how it turned out. Most often such controversies never solve or resolve problems – they just create more problems. As Christians, we need to be part of the solution, not the problem. We shouldn’t stir up trouble but stir each other up to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24). Those who choose to take part in foolish, ignorant controversies need to come to their senses. Sin is destructive, but salvation restores the ability to see reality and how Satan and sin snare and entraps us, keeping us from experience the love and grace of God.
The Need for Revival
- Satan would rather us be a divided nation caught up in foolish and ignorant controversies than to be united by the grace and love of God.
- When Christians get caught up in such controversies, we rarely display holy attitudes and behaviors. Therefore, we lose our testimony to the world and the world see us as no different than they are.
- Instead of being quarrelsome, we need to be kind to everyone, able to teach with gentleness and pray for their salvation.
Praying for Revival
Father, we saw first hand the result of people caught up in foolish, ignorant controversies when a group of people stormed the nation’s capital last year. It isn’t our place to blame or judge, but rather help us respond with your love and grace for people who desperately need to know you. It is so hard to keep our personal opinions and feelings from becoming controversies, but help us to bring them to you and find peace in knowing that you are in control. Then give us love for both our neighbor and our enemy. Help us to show your love to all people.
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
