A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him. If you long for revival in America (or your nation) we invite you to reflect on these daily verses and join us in praying for revival.
Today’s Bible verse for Revival
Worshiping idols and false gods was rampant in the days of Moses. We can actually look back to when Jacob left his father -in-law to return home and his wife Rebecca stole her father’s idols. All the nations around Israel worshiped multiple gods that they created themselves. It isn’t much different today. But even those who are Christians can be guilty of having idols. They may not be graven images – but idols still exist. We can be guilty of making idols out of relationships, children, careers, hobbies, sports, money, and possessions. Anything we give a higher priority to than God is an idol and we then become guilty of breaking the first commandment.
God called Israel to be set apart from the world, holy. God’s plan was that Israel would bring the gospel message to the rest of the world and show the world what it looks like when a nation honors and obeys God. But Israel did not want to be different – they wanted to be like all the other nations around them. The same is true for us today. Where America used to be known as a Christian nation, now you can hardly tell us apart from any other nation. We’ve exchanged Godly living for “culturally” or “politically” correct. As a result, our morals and values look like the world’s rather than God’s.
God is a jealous God?
We typically view jealousy as something that is bad. But God has every right to be jealous. He is our creator and He is the ONLY God by which we can be saved from our sins. Yet we look to so many other things or people or even false gods for happiness. God’s jealousy looks quite different from how we view or define jealousy. The Hebrew word translated “jealous” in the Ten Commandments is qanna (קַנָּא) It is only used to describe God and is related to another word that means “zeal.” Common synonyms for “zeal” are passion, enthusiasm, and fervor. When God says He is a jealous God, His jealousy is righteous and holy. God is jealous for his relationship with his people because He passionately loves them and does not want them to be destroyed by idolatry.
The Need for Revival
- Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any idols you have in your life.
- Seek God’s forgiveness and then return God to the place of honor due Him.
- What morals or values in your life look more like the world’s than God’s? Replace any worldly morals and values with God’s commandments and live to glorify Him.
Praying for Revival
Father, we confess to you in this moment the idols we’ve made in our lives. Forgive us for setting these things and people in a place of priority and honor over you. Lord, today I ask that you take the place of honor in my life.
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
