What does it mean to serve the Lord
Serving God is much more than just obeying Him. Certainly we serve Him when we follow His commandments, but it is also true that if you are not following His commandments, it is impossible to serve Him. If we are to serve Him, we must do life according to His way of living.
We also serve God through our worship and faith. Serving God includes caring for the homeless, orphans, and widows, or those who need our help. We serve God through our prayers as we intercede for others. When we serve at church in any capacity, we are serving God. We serve him as we witness to the lost and when we use the gifts he has given us to fulfill His purpose in our lives. When we mentor new Christians and help them grow in their faith, we are serving God.
Serving God is vital because it is through serving Him that we are salt and light in the earth and the world will know that He is God.
Serving God brings His blessings
In Exodus 23:25, God says that if Israel served Him, he would bless their bread and water and remove sickness from them. The unspoken statement is the opposite. If we refuse to serve God and live according to his commands and statutes, then he does not bless our bread and water and he will bring sickness on us. We are no longer a nation that serves God. Is COVID God’s response to our turning away from Him? Only God can answer that, but if so, our nation needs a revival and repent of its many sins and turn back to God if He is to remove the sickness from us.
The Need for Revival
- Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you are not serving God or serving Him with wrong motivations.
- Intercede for our nation and ask God to forgive the sins of our nation.
- Ask God to raise up leaders in our nation that fear Him and will lead our nation to serve and obey God.
Praying for Revival
Father, forgive us for the numerous sins in our lives and in our nation. We desperately need you in our nation and our world. Lord, give us hearts to serve you and we ask that you remove the sickness of COVID from us. Lord, you said in your word that you appoint leaders at appointed times to carry out your plans. We ask that the leaders of our nation would turn their hearts back to you. Give them a desire to serve you and obey you. Give them boldness to remove the abomination sins of our nation and to lead this nation back to you.
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
