Do we need a revival?
The Christian life isn’t like the Hokey Pokey
As kids, when we sang the Hokey Pokey song we put one foot in and one foot out. The people in Elijah’s day was just like that. It’s like you have God on one side of a line and the idol Baal on the other side. They wanted a foot on both sides. Elijah called the people to him and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions?” He was calling them out to choose a side. To either follow the Lord if He was their God or to follow Baal.
What about you? Do you have one foot in the world and one foot in Christianity? Are you spiritual on Sunday, but live like the world Monday-Saturday? God tells us in His Word that He is a jealous God. He wants all of our hearts. Elijah, through the pages of Scripture, would ask us the same question today. Joshua would stand beside him and say, “Choose you this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Do you have a one foot in – or are you all in with Jesus? If you want to see revival, we have to be all in with Jesus.
The Need for Revival
- Take some time to meditate and reflect on your own life and commitment to God. Are you a “hokey pokey” Christian or are you all in?
- Sometimes, we can hold back little things that we don’t want to surrender to God. Is there anything you are holding on to that God would want you to let go of?
- If you don’t have both feet firmly planted with God, what’s holding you back?
Praying for Revival
Father, forgive us for having one foot in the world and one foot in with you. We don’t want to be “hokey pokey” Christians. We want to be all in with you. Show us the areas in our lives that we need to surrender to you, the places we don’t need to go to, the websites that we don’t need to be on, the movies we don’t need to watch, the words we don’t need to say, the attitudes that don’t please you. Cultivate and grow the fruit of the Spirit with in and give us a passion and zeal to experientially know you.
Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
