Ruth 2:12 – A Recompense

April 8 Ruth 2 12

I have the joy and privilege of leading and working with six of the finest, Christian ladies I’ve met. These ladies each feel called to the job they do and they pour everything they have into serving God. Each and every day, no matter how tired they are, how overwhelmed they are, how much work waits them, how many crises have to be solved in one work day – they serve Jesus and they serve Him well. At the end of each day, they’ve made a difference in many lives. Only when they reach Heaven will they truly understand the eternal impact on the many lives they’ve touched, simply because they were obedient to what God has called them to do. They are faithful.

Ruth is another young lady who gave her all. She demonstrated her faithfulness to her mother-in-law, even though she had no further obligations to Naomi after Ruth’s husband died. Yet, Ruth left her home and family to faithfully remain at her mother-in-law’s side. When she catches the eye of Boaz, Boaz is amazed at Ruth’s loyalty and faithfulness. As a result, he spoke a blessing over Ruth, asking God to repay Ruth and to shelter her under his wings like a mother bird would shelter her young. The King James Version uses the word, “recompense.” This word means “to pay back or give a reward – a payment for loss, service, or injury – to compensate.” However, Boaz doesn’t only speak the blessing, he also goes to work to ensure the Ruth is indeed compensated and God works through Boaz to bring about the blessing that Boaz spoke. It is through the bloodline of Ruth and Boaz that Christ was born – and because of that we all reap eternal rewards – all because of Ruth’s faithfulness. What eternal impact do you have on the world as you faithfully live out and obey God’s call in your life?

To the six ladies I get to work with – “May the Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord, under whose wings thou art come to trust.” You ladies inspire me everyday.

God, thank you for the joy of being able to join you in your plan and calling us to make a difference. May the work of our hands bring you honor and glory everyday.
