Jesus…our focus for Christmas

Dec 1 Heb 12 1-2 focus on Jesus

On my Christmas playlist, I have a Michael Buble’ album with the song “All I want for Christmas.” While the song is intended to be a romantic song with the singer wanting nothing more than his “baby” for Christmas, what if we read those lyrics with the intention of all we want for Christmas is Jesus? Read the lyrics to the first part of the song below, but with Jesus as your focus.

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
And I don’t care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree

I don’t need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won’t make me happy
With a toy on Christmas Day

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas
Is you You*

Is the “You” that you want for Christmas Jesus? Could you say that all you want for Christmas is Jesus? He is the King of kings that left heaven and came to earth as a baby in a lowly manger so that He could save us from our sin, allowing us to have an eternal relationship with God. What better gift could we want or need?

Paul wrote in Hebrews 12 that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus, the source of our faith. Our focus during the holidays shouldn’t be on the lights and trees, the gifts under the tree, or the holiday parties. He should be our focus through this busy holiday season. The Christmas holiday is a holiday celebrating the birth of our Savior born in a manger who is the hope of our Salvation. As we move through the Christmas season, may we focus on Him.
