A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

These verses are often used as words of praise. But when the people of God take Him for granted, don’t give Him thanks, do not take the time to call on His name or make His mighty deeds known and do not exalt His name above all, then complacency has set in and we, His people, are not being salt and light to a lost and dark world.

From The Message Bible:

“Give thanks to God. Call out his name. Ask him anything! Shout to the nations, tell them what he’s done, spread the news of his great reputation!” — Isaiah 12:4-6 (MSG)

The Need for Revival

1. Are you truly thankful for all that God does for you – so much so that your “cup runneth over” and your praise just tumbles out of you?
2. When you call out the name of God, is it as a cuss word? Do you toss around His name as if He is a genie in a bottle? Or do you say it with the honor and respect He deserves. In Matthew 6:9, Jesus gives the disciples a lesson on how to pray. We commonly call this, “The Lord’s Prayer.” Jesus’ model for prayer begins with, “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” The world “hallowed” means, “made holy; consecreated; greatly revered and honored. Is this how you treat the name of God when you call out to Him?
3. We can go to Him and ask him anything. Do you ask Him to send a revival to our nation? Do you have a higher priority, such as asking for a new house, car, or that one thing you really hope you get for Christmas this year?
4. How often do you proclaim what God has done to those you meet, or your co-workers, friends, or family? If you refuse to, then you a putting your light under a bushel when our world desperately needs to know Jesus!

Praying for Revival

In quiet moments with the Holy Spirit, ask Him to reveal to you all the things God has done for you in 2020. Make a list. Take time to thank God and praise Him for each thing on your list.

If you have been convicted that you haven’t treated God’s name with the reverence it deserves, confess that now. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you only speak His name in a manner that honors Him.

Pray for revival for our nation.

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you someone today who you can tell what God has done in your life.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Do we need a revival?

Do our “guides” need revival?

In this passage, the “guides” were the priests and false prophets that led the nation of Israel away from God. There certainly are preachers today who do not preach the true Word of God and lead people away from the truth. Those preachers will one day have to give an account to God for all the lives lost because they chose to not preach the truth, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Do those in political/government offices need revival?

We also can apply this to those in government offices and those who make laws and policies. Just before Moses died, we find in Deuteronomy 16:18 that God instituted judges over the people: “Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the LORD your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.”

The judge’s role was to judge the people. That means holding them accountable to the laws God gave them. For example, if there was a dispute between two Israelites about compensation after an accident, say, then the judge’s role was to decide what should be done. A bit like when two people come before Judge Judy with a dispute about who the dog really belongs to or something like that. When it comes to the judges of Israel, the cases are real, the decisions are final.

Judges/Government Officials are held to standards too

But it’s important to see that God didn’t set these judges above the law. They are held to certain standards too. God says to the judges, verse 19, “do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a  bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.” God’s not interested in corrupt judges who play favorites. He doesn’t want judges who will do favors for rich people who can afford them. He wants honest judges who will find the truth and decide issues fairly. Why? Because God is deeply concerned for what is right! That’s why he instituted these judges. Verse 20 says, “Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

God is just! He always does what is right. He exposes every evil, punishes every sin, rights every wrong. And so, he calls his people to make their nation a place of justice too. That’s why he instituted the judges as the first leadership role.

Do our guides and leaders hold up these standards?

Those that hold these offices have a responsibility to make laws that align with God’s laws. Those who sit as judge, are to both judge according to God’s laws and they are held to the standards set forth in God’s laws. When laws were passed to make abortion legal, does that align with God’s laws? No. Abortion is murder and God says, “Thou shalt not murder.” (Exodus 20:13) Proverbs 6:16-19 says, “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”

What about laws that made same-sex marriage legal? God says homosexuality is an abomination to him. Leviticus 18:22 says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

From The Message Bible:

“Those who were supposed to lead this people led them down blind alleys, And those who followed the leaders ended up lost and confused.” – Isaiah 9:16

The Need for Revival

1. What other laws can you think of that have been passed that do not align with God’s laws?
2. Pray for your own pastor to preach boldly the truths of God’s Word.
3. Pray for the pastors who are teaching false doctrine that God would open their eyes, convict their hearts and teach them the truths of His Word and they would repent and change what they preach.
4. And, pray for our political and government leaders to lead our nation in a way that aligns with God’s laws.

Praying for Revival

God, those who serve in leadership roles in our government have not held to your standards. They are leading our nation farther and farther away from you. There are preachers who do not preach the truth of your Word. God, we ask you to raise up guides and leaders for this nation who love you and want to see this nation be a nation that honors and glorifies you. Lord, send us those leaders. For those currently in office, convict their hearts and bring them to repentance for leading our nation away from you. Lord, we ask that you bring a revival in the hearts of pastors and government leaders all across our nation.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Do we need a revival?

America was built on a Biblical foundation. However, over the years, that foundation has has slowly crumbled away. Where we were once known world-wide as a Christian, God-honoring nation, we no longer hold that image to the rest of the world…or to God.

From The Message Bible:

“If you don’t take your stand in faith, you won’t have a leg to stand on.”

The Need for Revival

1. What would it take for America to return to its God-honoring, Christian roots?
2. Think back through America’s history and identify landmark events that have chipped away our faith.
3. When these events occurred, where were the Christians?
4. Are you willing to take your stand in faith?

Praying for Revival

Ask God to reveal to you ways you have not taken a stand for faith. Ask Him to give you the boldness and courage to stand up for your faith. Intercede for America and ask God to forgive us (Christians) for allowing the faith of this nation to slowly fade away and to forgave our nation for turning it back on God. Pray that God will give His people a zeal for this nation to turn back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

In Isaiah 6, Isaiah has a vision of heaven and he looks God in the face. Naturally, He is terrified. But an angel flies to him with a live coal that came from the altar and touches Isaiah’s mouth and in doing so, Isaiah’s guilt is gone. Then he hears Jesus speak and He asks: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah volunteers to go and God sends him. But the message God gives Isaiah to give to the people is words of warning. He says the people will listen, but not understand. They will look, but they won’t see. They won’t have any clue about what is going on and as a result they won’t turn around and be made clean and whole.

From The Message Bible:

And then I heard the voice of the Master: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” I spoke up, “I’ll go. Send me!”

The Need for Revival

1. If we are going to see a revival in our nation, we need to be bold witnesses for Jesus. God is looking for people whom He can send into the world to deliver His message of Good News that Jesus loves them, died for them, and He offers then the gift of eternal life.
2. If you heard God speak and say to you, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” would you go?
3. What would hold you back from going? Is that thing or person and idol that you care more about than God?
4. How burdened are you for the lost? Enough to go and tell them about Jesus? Do you care that without you telling them they may die lost in their sin, with Jesus as their Savior?

Praying for Revival

Pray that God will give you eyes to see the lost who need to know about Jesus. Ask Him to put people in your path everyday who needs to hear about Him. Pray for Him to give you a burden for their spiritual condition. Ask him to enable you to speak with boldness and authority, but with love and compassion, and tell others He leads to you about Him.

Do we need a revival?

From The Message Bible:

But they won’t get by with it. As fire eats stubble and dry grass goes up in smoke, Their souls will atrophy, their achievements crumble into dust, Because they said no to the revelation of God-of-the-Angel-Armies, Would have nothing to do with The Holy of Israel.

The Need for Revival

1. God did not let His chosen people, Israel and Judah, get by with their sins of idolatry and forsaking God and He will not let us get by with our sin and forsaking Him today. When God finally had enough of Israel rejecting Him, the nation was conquered and the people we sent into exile and captivity. They were arrogant in their sin because the Temple was in Jerusalem and they thought God would never allow the Temple to be destroyed. So they did not listen to the prophets whom God sent to warn them.
2. Our nation has also become arrogant and proud. Fully dependent on ourselves. When God has had enough of America forsaking Him, what will our judgment be?
3. Just as the souls of Israel atrophied, the souls of our nation have atrophied. We’ve become hardhearted and calloused against God and His commandments.
4. One of the greatest achievements in Israel was the elaborate temple, but when Assyria conquered them, they destroyed the temple and took anything of value back with them. If our nation continues on its current path of rejecting God and living in arrogance and pride against Him, we can expect to see our achievements crumble into dust too. Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
5. More and more the leaders of this nation, as well as many of the citizens say no to God and want nothing to do with Him. They’d rather live however they want and they do not want to be confronted with their sin.

Praying for Revival

Intercede in prayer for our nation and ask God forgive us for forsaking Him. Ask Him to bring new life to the soul of our nation and to remove the hearts of stone and give us hearts of flesh. Ask Him to give us a longing to know Him and to love Him with all our heart, mind, and soul.

Pray for our leaders that their hearts would be turned toward God and that they would lead our nation to once more be a nation that honors and glorifies God.
