Why is daily Bible reading important?

Bible Reading is vitally important to growing spiritually and keeping our spiritual selves full. God wants us to hide His Word in our hearts, meditate on it and apply it to our lives. When we have a plan, we are more likely to follow through. Here are eight reasons you should have a daily Bible Reading plan:

  • We can find His will for our lives
  • Bible reading is our spiritual nourishment
  • It helps us be able to discern the thoughts and intents of our heart.
  • The Bible instructs us in righteousness
  • It gives us power to overcome trials, heartaches, and sin
  • God gives us many promises, but you won’t know them unless you read about them, memorize them, and know if it’s a promise intended for us today
  • God reveals Himself to us and we learn about Him which strengthens our relationship with Him
  • He also speaks to us through His Word.

Don’t miss what God has to say to you today.
It’s time to practice spiritual self-care and read your Bible!

Practice Spiritual Self care and dig into God’s Word today to be revived and renewed!

Memorize & Meditate

scripture memory graphicEach week we post a scripture to challenge you to hide God’s Word in your heart. Commit it to memory, meditate on it and apply it to your life.

This week’s memory verse:

Psalm 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. He counts the number of stars; He calls them all by name.

click to tweetClick to tweet this week’s memory verse.

Meditate:

  1. To be broken means “reduced to fragments, ruptured, torn, fractured, not working properly, out of order.” This is exactly how we feel when we are broken hearted. How else would you describe how being brokenhearted feels?
  2. We all experience times of brokenness – times of sorrow, hurt, failure, defeat, betrayal or any other emotion of grief and loss. At times, the emotions we feel are overwhelming and spiral us into depression, stress, and anxiety. But as a child of God we can find comfort and peace when we give these times to Him and trust Him that He is working everything out for our good – even if we can’t see or understand it.
  3. No matter what we go through in life, God is always there for us, just waiting with His arms open wide for you to run to him and give him your shattered dreams and shattered heart. Turning to God in these moment is the most important and first step you should take. Turning to Him begins with prayer and surrender.
  4. When God binds up our wounds, these are the emotional wounds that life causes. He will reach down into your innermost being and bandage them. If they are deep enough, He will “stitch” them back together so they have time to heal. Remember the definition of being broken? When God comes to bind up our wounds, He gently and lovely does heart surgery and painstakingly sews each of the fragments parts of our heart back together again. However, just like a heart doctor needs a release to do open heart surgery, God needs for you to invite Him in and give him access to the hurts so that healing can begin. Surgery is always painful, but once it’s done, healing can begin so that you are on the road to recovery. The same is true when God is putting the pieces of your heart back together.
  5. The same God who counts the stars and calls them by name, knows you by name and he care for you more than he does the stars. Even when the brokenness is so overwhelming that we feel as if our flesh and heart might fail, God is the strength of our heart and our portion forever. (Psalm 73:26)
  6. Overcoming brokenheartedness takes time – but it will get better. As you work through the emotions of grief and loss, start by turning to God in prayer. Don’t run away from Him and shut Him out. Surrender the circumstances to Him. Take some time alone with the Holy Spirit and see if there was any wrong on your part in the situation and if there is, confess the sin to God and ask for his forgiveness. If you need to, ask the other person to forgive you too. They may or may not grant it and its okay if they don’t. They may just need some time to process their own hurts and will be ready later to give you forgiveness. They may need some time to see a change in you to know that you are truly sorry. If they choose to never forgive you, it will be between them and God. Spend some time basking in God’s unfailing love and meditate on Scripture that will speak life and healing into your heart. If the situation means that you have lost a friend, then know that God will either work towards restoration or He will send someone new into your life. Don’t dwell on what someone else did that caused the hurt and loss. Doing so will cause you to give into anger and store up bitterness. Whether they ask for your forgiveness or not, forgive them anyway and let it go. Over time, you will feel the joy coming back into your life – let it in. If your broken heart is caused by the death of a loved one, God hears your tears and knows how much you grieve the loss and he is waiting on you to come into His arms and into His comfort.
  7. How does memorizing this verse help you, even if you are not going through a season of brokenness right now?
