Hey Christian…Speak Up!

What does God want to say through you?

Have you ever felt that God was wanting you to say something to someone but you didn’t? Most often we feel like we don’t know what to say. Or we stumble around in our thoughts trying to convince ourselves that God isn’t asking us to say something. But when we choose to keep our mouths shut, we silence the voice of God. On the other hand, we can be just as guilty of saying something God did not prompt us to say, but we disguise with “God wanted me to tell you…”

Maybe you know the other person is grieving or hurting or in need. Maybe you don’t know their circumstances at all. Perhaps they are a total stranger. Or maybe this other person is someone who had hurt or ridiculed you. Whoever they are, often God choses us as the method to speak to others and when we don’t they miss out on the word God has for them. So when you feel God prompting you to speak to someone – speak up!

Some not very encouraging news

Jesus said in Matthew 10 that persecutions are coming. Not very encouraging news, is it? Jesus said that he was sending us out as sheep in the midst of wolves and that we should be wise as serpents and harmless as doves while still being aware that people will turn on us. And when they do, we are not to worry about what we should say to their accusations because in the moment that we should speak, the Holy Spirit will give us the words we need to say. But when He does give us the words – then we become responsible for saying them so we have to – speak up.

The hardest word is the first word so go ahead and speak up

The same is true in every circumstance where God is asking us to speak up. Often times, the hardest word is the first word but once we open our mouths, the words just start coming. Then you might look back afterwards and say, “where did that come from?” It came from the Holy Spirit speaking through you.

Created to be a blessing

God created us to worship Him and give Him praise. He also created us to be a blessing to others. Philippians 2:1-5 says, “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.”

We are to be an encouragement and comfort to others, showing affection and sympathy. We are to do nothing out of rivalry or conceit but in humility, always thinking of others as more important than ourselves. Wow! What a different world we would live in if we lived this way!

Who is the Holy Spirit asking you to Speak Up to?

Who is it that Holy Spirit is prompting you to speak to? When we speak up, we speak life into their lives. We fill them with blessings of encouragement, love, mercy, and grace of God. What if your speaking up stopped them from committing suicide today? What if you speaking up kept them from making a big mistake in their life? Or what if you speaking up was the word they needed to surrender their life to Christ? What if you don’t?

Speak up. Be life. Be light. The Holy Spirit will give you the words to say – just speak up.

Revive Us Again, Lord

Our nation and our world need to experience a revival. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land.” Revival begins with the people of God. We invite you to join us in praying for revival for America and our world.
