Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Revival is needed because the wickedness of man is great

The flood that destroyed the entire earth, except for those inside the ark occurred for no other reason than sin. As God looked down on the earth, he saw that man had become so full of sin that he describes it as “the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his hearts was only evil continually.” In fact, the sin level was so high that God regretted making man.

From “very good” to “regret”

Back in the beginning when God created the earth and man, God said at the end of each day of created that it was “good.” But when he made man in his own image, God said it was “very good.” But by the days of Noah, we find that God regretted ever making man. As a result, God decides to destroy the earth.

But Noah…

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. The Bible describes Noah as a man that “walked with God.” Now if you’re going to walk with an omniscient and holy God, you’d better make sure you living an honorable life. The Bible said that Noah was “blameless.” It doesn’t mean that Noah never sinned, but that he was without evident fault. If he did sin, he must have confessed it and asked for God’s forgiveness. But of all the people living at the time of the flood, only Noah and his family found favor in God’s sight.

The Need for Revival

  1. Do you think that God is once again at a point of regretting that He made man? Do you think He is grieved over the sin in our world?
  2. If God looked on the earth today, would you find favor in the eyes of the Lord? Would he say you are blameless?
  3. Would God say that you walk with Him? Do you have a close relationship with Him?

Praying for Revival

Father, how you must regret the state of the world today – and our nation. Forgive us for grieving your heart. Father, help me to live blameless before you and to find favor in your eyes. Give me a desire to have a personal, close relationship with you that hungers and thirsts for righteousness. May I live my life in such a way that when the world looks at me, they see you.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

2 Chronicles 16:9

2 Chronicles 16 9

What do you think Jesus sees when he watches over the earth? In John 11:35, the shortest verse in the Bible, it says, “Jesus wept.” This verse takes place when Jesus comes to Mary and Martha after the death of their brother, Lazarus and before Jesus rose Lazarus from the dead. Why did He weep? He wept out of compassion for those who were suffering and mourning. He wept because of sin and it’s effect on the world. He wept because of the lack of faith people had in who He was. He wept because of His love for us. How Jesus must weep overt he earth today! The very world that He gave His life for shuns Him, throws away His commandments to live any ol’ way they please. Isaiah 53:6 says that every one of have “turned to our own way” and because of that, Jesus took the punishment for us. Yet still today, the world continues living their own way. Yes, I am sure that Jesus weeps over the world today. He weeps for the drug user, the alcoholic, the prostitute, the adulterer, the homosexual, the thief, the child that was aborted, the murder and the murdered, the one who shakes his fist at Him and says “There is no God!” He weeps because He has been kicked out of our schools and our court rooms. He weeps because we look at skin color and not the hearts of people. He weeps because we become satisfied with just enough of God to keep us out of hell, but refuse to give Him first place in our lives. He weeps because His name is used to curse instead of bless. He weeps when we weep.

2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us, “If my people, who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.” Christians, the way to change the world, begins with us humbling ourselves before God, seeking Him. Allowing him to create within us a clean heart. Then we can begin to pray for others and for God to heal our world.

God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
–Psalm 51:10
