Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

The Result of Sin

In Isaiah 24, the prophet says the Earth is polluted by its very own people. This is much more than not recycling or harming the ozone layer. It is polluted because of the sin of the people. It is defiled by its inhabitants because they refuse to obey God’s laws and violate His commands. When Adam sinned, the ground was cursed. Because of our sin, the earth has been turned upside down and totally different from God’s original creation.

The result is that we live in a world of disappointment, tears, and full of trouble. God’s curse brings all kinds of calamities upon the earth, from earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, and pandemics. God’s judgment on sin has made the earth desolate.

From The Message Bible:

Earth is polluted by its very own people, who have broken its laws, Disrupted its order, violated the sacred and eternal covenant. Therefore a curse, like a cancer, ravages the earth. Its people pay the price of their sacrilege. They dwindle away, dying out one by one.” — Isaiah 13:9 (MSG)

The Need for Revival

  1. We need to mourn and repent of sin.
  2. In your lifetime, in what ways have your seen the results of sin on our world?
  3. How would a revival across our world impact the current course for our world?

Praying for Revival

Father, we acknowledge that our sin has polluted the world you created. We’ve seen your judgement on sin through natural disasters of all kinds and a pandemic that rages still. Father, we fall our our knees before you with repentant hearts. Forgive us of our sin. Give us hearts to seek your face and to pursue righteousness. Give us wisdom and strength to flee evil. God, we ask that you fill us with the Holy Spirit so that the light of Christ shines throughout the world. Give us a zeal and passion to truly know you and experience you in an intimate relationship. God, send a revival in our nation and in our world.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

All things are possible

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Over and over again, God sent prophets to call His people back to Him. The people mocked the prophets, tried to kill them, refused to listen to them. They didn’t want to be confronted with their sin. They wanted to go on living the way they wanted to – and that included worshipping idols, sacrificing their children to false gods, temple prostitution, and more.

God chose the nations of Israel to be the genealogy of Christ. This nation was supposed to have been set apart and different than the rest of the world. They were to bring others to God. Instead they forgot God and chose to be like the nations around them. Israel broke the the covenant relationship with God. Finally, God had enough and judgement came. That judgement saw Israel conquered, sent into exile, and their land was demolished.

Have you forgotten God?

He is the God that sent His son, Jesus, into the world to pay the price for our sin so that we can have a relationship with Him. That is what makes Him the “God of our Salvation.”

Even if the earth gives way and the waters roar around us, God is our the Rock of our Refuge. Psalm 32:7 says, “You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.” Because God is the “rock of our refuge,” He is our hiding place. It means that God is with us, and we need not be afraid. It means we can take comfort in being in God’s presence, trusting in the promise of eternal life.

What about you? Have you forgotten God? Do you just pull Him out when life brings a crisis? Do you just visit Him weekly at church on Sunday? God wants a relationship with us – one that is close, intimate. He wants to be a part of every moment of every day.

From The Message Bible:

You have forgotten God-Your-Salvation, not remembered your Rock-of-Refuge.” — Isaiah 13:9 (MSG)

The Need for Revival

  1. Take some time today to meditate on your relationship with God. Have you forgotten him?
  2. Have you taken time to reflect on the meaning of Christmas and thanked God for sending Jesus to save your from your sins?
  3. In the day-to-day busyness of life, do you push God out of the way to get everything done on your to-do list or do you bring Him along with you, making Him a part of your day?
  4. Ask the Holy Spirit to show areas of your life where you have forgotten God. How can you include God in those parts of your life?
  5. Are they sins you stubbornly hang on to and choose to forsake God so that you can continue living the way you want to live?

Praying for Revival

Revival begins in the heart of an individual and spreads from person to person. Would you begin praying today and asking the Holy Spirit to show you moment by moment of every day the times you forget God. Do your forget Him when making decisions for your life? Do you forget Him when life is easy? Or do you walk away from Him and blame Him when life is hard? Surrender to Him the areas of your life that God sits on the sidelines, forgotten and begin developing a close relationship with Him.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Isaiah 13 is a prophecy against Babylon as Isaiah saw the terrible desolation of Babylon by the Medes and Persians. The Babylonians were proud, and haughty. They persisted in their idolatries and oppressions. But when you read verses 10-16, Isaiah describes what will happen when God brings judgement on them through the conquering Medes and Persians.

Isaiah says, their faces shall be scorched with the flame. All comfort and hope shall fail. The stars of heaven shall not give their light, the sun shall be darkened. Such expressions are often employed by the prophets, to describe the convulsions of governments. God will judge them for their iniquity, particularly the sin of pride, which brings men low. There shall be a general scene of horror. Those who join themselves to Babylon, must expect to share her plagues (Revelation 18:4).

What Isaiah sees in his vision are the Medes and Persians cruel and inhuman acts that shows how corrupt the nature of man is become. Even infants do not escape their tyranny and are killed.

The Day of the Lord

Isaiah says that the Day of the Lord as come. He is speaking in both the “prophetic tense,” having in mind both a near fulfillment (the day of judgment against the Babylonian Empire), and an ultimate fulfillment (the final day of judgment at the return of Jesus). The Day of the Lord will, indeed, be terrible with wrath and fierce anger, far beyond what is described in Isaiah 13. In fact, God wanted us to be just as forewarned as Babylon was. The entire book of Revelation tells us what we can expect in the end times to come. During that time, there will not be any place for the sinner to flee to, or attempt an escape. However, just as the Babylonians continued to live just the way they wanted, today few act as though they believe the Day of the Lord will come.

From The Message Bible:

Watch now. God’s Judgement Day comes. Cruel it is, a day of wrath and anger, A day to waste the earth and clean out all the sinners.” — Isaiah 13:9 (MSG)

The Need for Revival

  1. The judgment of God’s wrath comes on those who forsake and completely abandon what amounts to both the tablets of the Law: loving God and loving others. It comes about as the result of forsaking the One True God for another and by exploiting and overcoming others for one’s own gain. It is the complete rejection of God personally and His Law completely.
  2. How does this apply to our nation today? Do our actions as a nation warrant God’s wrath?
  3. The alternative to God cleaning out the sinners through His wrath and judgement is for God’s people (Christians) to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from their wicked ways. Then, 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us that God will hear us from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land. The alternative to God’s wrath is a revival that sweeps across our nation and changes the hearts of its people and it begins with the people of God.

Praying for Revival

Consider a day of fasting and prayer as you meditate on 2 Chronicles 7:14.

  • In what ways do you need to humble yourself before God?
  • Do you pray for a revival for your own heart and our nation?
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any sin in your life and confess that to God.
  • Seeking God’s face is like having an hunger and thirst to know Him. How much do you really want to know God and have an intimate relationship with Him. Is He merely your “fire insurance” to keep you out of hell? Or is He the Holy One you worship with total love and abandon?
  • What wicked ways do you need to turn away from?
  • Ask God to hear your prayers for repentance and revival, to forgive your sin and heal our land.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
