Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Pardon the sins of a stiff-necked people

To be stiff-necked is to be haughty or stubborn. When you look at how many times Israel slipped back into idolatry and how stubborn they were in refusing to give up false gods, we can see why Moses called the nation “stiff-necked.” If you’ve ever woke up with your neck hurting because you slept in a weird position, you can understand this term a little better. With your neck hurting, it is difficult to turn your head. So when Moses called the Israelites “stiff-necked” he recognized that it would be difficult for them to turn their minds away from the false gods and towards the one true God.

Yet, Moses still prays for God to go in the midst of them because they are stiff-necked. He prays on the behalf of the nation for God to pardon their iniquity and sin. While sin is the general term for anything that “falls short of the glory of God,” iniquity is more deeply rooted and refers to a premeditated choice. Committing iniquity is to continue in sin without repentance.

Sin or iniquity?

When we look at our nation and the sins it is guilty of, would you say we have sinned against God or would you say we are at the point of iniquity? We have been on a downward slope for many years and left the “sin” category long ago. We are definitely a nation of iniquity with a land full of stiff-necked people. And iniquity is a poison to any nation and without repentance, it will bring God’s judgment.

The antidote for iniquity is revival

Any poison left untreated will either bring a terrible illness or death. Because of God’s holiness, he cannot look upon sin. With the huge sin and iniquity problem of this nation, God has turned his face away from us. If we want to see God’s favor in the midst of this nation, there must be a humbling of ourselves to see us as God sees us. We must seek God’s face with broken hearts for how our sin and iniquity has broken God’s hearts. We must repent and turn from our wicked ways, asking God to forgive us and heal our land.

The Need for Revival

  1. Seek forgiveness for sins in your own life.
  2. Intercede for our nation and ask God to forgive the sins and iniquities of our nation.
  3. Ask God to raise up leaders in our nation that fear Him and will lead our nation to serve and obey God.
  4. Pray for boldness amongst God’s people to boldly proclaim His name and to humbly fall on their knees before Him.

Praying for Revival

Father, we humbly fall on our knees before you, acknowledging our sins and iniquities and seeking your forgiveness for our own lives and for our nation. We desperately need you in our nation and our world and we desperately need a revival in our nation. Lord, you said in your word that you appoint leaders at appointed times to carry out your plans. We ask that the leaders of our nation would turn their hearts back to you. Give them a desire to serve you and obey you. Give them boldness to remove the abomination sins of our nation and to lead this nation back to you. God, we pray that you call your people together to stand up in boldness to proclaim your name.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

What is “bare false witness”?

To bear false witness against others is to lie about them, especially for personal gain. The Hebrew word translated “neighbor” in this commandment can mean an associate, a brother, companion, fellow, friend, husband, lover, or neighbor. In other words, the Israelites were commanded to be truthful in all things, but especially when speaking about another person. The people were not to lie publicly, as in a court of law by laying at another’s feet any false charge that could injure him, nor were they to lie privately by whispering, talebearing, backbiting, slandering, or destroying his character by innuendos, sly insinuations, and evil suggestions. You should not bear false witness against a co-worker, classmate, family member, friend, political opponent – or ANYONE.

The Need for Revival

  1. Think about through the election. Did you potentially say something false about a candidate you didn’t like?
  2. Think about your family, friends, co-workers, supervisors, classmates, pastor. Have you said something untrue about them?
  3. Confess any incidents the Holy Spirit brings to mind where you have broken this commandment.

Praying for Revival

Father, there is life and death in the power of the tongue. Bearing false witness against others stirs up strife and destroys relationships. Father, before words leave our mouth, would you cause us to think about what we say and to speak only truth about others.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Do we need a revival?

Are you guilty of stealing?

You might not have an arrest warrant for theft, but are you guilty of stealing? Have you taken something from the company that you shouldn’t have? Have you borrowed something but not return it? These are stealing just as much as breaking into a home or business and stealing from them.

The Need for Revival

  1. Ask God to convict you are anything you have stole. To the best of your ability, make restitution.
  2. Ask God to forgive you.

Praying for Revival

Father, most of us a guilty of stealing on some level. Reveal the sin of stealing where it is infecting us. Lord, help us to live with integrity and honesty before you and before those around us. Part of revival is coming clean of the sins that are hidden away and allowing you to cleanse us and make us white as snow. Forgive, Lord, and make us new.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

What constitutes as “murder”?

Obviously, killing another human being is murder. But so is abortion. In Israel, as part of their idolatry, they were guilty of sacrificing their children and causing them to “pass through the fire.” God called it an abomination. Today, people who are “for” abortion would argue that then unborn fetus is not yet a human. Yet in only four weeks after conception, the developing baby is already developing a spinal system, heart, and brain. From the moment of conception, life has taken place as cells begin to divide at a very rapid rate. So abortion at any stage, is nothing short of murder.

But there is also another way we can be guilty of breaking the 6th commandment. 1 John 3:15 says, “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer.” And in Matthew 5:21-22, Jesus said, ““You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.” So consider for a moment who you are angry with. Is there someone you hate? If so, you are guilty of murder.

Revival and the 6th Commandment

As long as you harbor anger, hatred, unforgiveness, or bitterness in your heart, you will not experience a revival. Jesus went on to say in Matthew 5:23-24, “So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” If you want to experience revival, you’ll need to settle things with those whom you have conflict. You’ll need to forgive them and then you can seek God to revive your heart.

The Need for Revival

  1. Is there anger, hatred, division within your home, work, or church?
  2. Do you struggle with racism?
  3. Do you have conflict or hatred for someone who votes differently than you?
  4. What are your thoughts and emotions towards those in government office?

Praying for Revival

Father, Satan would keep us in conflict and divided. He stirs up anger and hatred wherever he goes. But at the center of such emotions is pride and an unwillingness to forgive. Help us to let anger and hatred go and exchange it for loving our neighbor as Christ loves them.

Father, convict us and forgive us for the countless murders of innocent children through the horrendous act of abortion. God, may we advocate for life. May we see the unborn life as a uniquely and wonderfully made creation, knitted together by your hand and given life by you.

Lord, we often think that because we’ve not killed another person, that we are not guilty of this commandment. Open our spiritual eyes and hearts to see this commandment through your eyes.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

What does it mean to honor your father and mother?

From GotQuestions.org, honoring your father and mother is being respectful in both word and action. It is having an inward attitude of esteem for their position. The Greek word for honor means “to revere, prize, and value.” Honor is giving respect not only for merit but also for rank. For example, some Americans may disagree with the President’s decisions, but they should still respect his position as leader of their country. Similarly, children of all ages should honor their parents, regardless of whether or not their parents “deserve” honor.

We cannot outgrow God’s command to honor our parents

Although we may no longer be directly under their authority, we cannot outgrow God’s command to honor our parents. Even Jesus, God the Son, submitted Himself to both His earthly parents (Luke 2:51) and His heavenly Father (Matthew 26:39). Following Christ’s example, we should treat our parents the way we would reverentially approach our heavenly Father (Hebrews 12:9Malachi 1:6).

If we honored our parents in the same way we are to honor God, would we see a revival?

We should seek to honor our parents in much the same way that we strive to bring glory to God—in our thoughts, words, and actions. We need to recognize that God gifted us to our parents. He placed us within our family units for a reason and a purpose. Perhaps your purpose was to win them to Christ. Regardless of the reason, do you think if we honored our parents as the 5th commandment says would we experience a revival within our hearts and homes? Would that then spread to a revival within our nation and our world?

For a young child, obeying parents goes hand in hand with honoring them. That includes listening, heeding, and submitting to their authority. You cannot honor them if you talking back to them, being rebellious, talking bad about them to your friends, or throwing temper tantrums because you didn’t get your way. After children mature, the obedience that they learned as children will serve them well in honoring other authorities such as government, police, and employers.

While we are required to honor parents, that doesn’t include imitating ungodly ones (Ezekiel 20:18-19). If a parent ever instructs a child to do something that clearly contradicts God’s commands, that child must obey God rather than his/her parents (Acts 5:29).

The Need for Revival

  1. In what ways do you honor your parents?
  2. In what ways do you not honor your parents?
  3. Clearly, there are some parents who do horrible things, even to their own children, and it can be difficult to honor them. You do not have to agree with or follow their example to honor them. But you do have to respect their position of authority over you.
  4. In what ways would our world be different if each of us honored our parents?

Praying for Revival

Father, honoring our parents is one way we can honor you, our heavenly Father, because you have commanded us to honor them. Help us to honor them, not just for long life, but to glorify you. For those of us who are parents, help us to teach our children to honor and respect us as parents and help us to parent in a way that brings you honor. Lord, as we surrender our hearts to you in obedience to the commandment to honor or parents, we ask that you send a revival within our hearts and homes that spreads to our nation and our world.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
