We can sometimes find it difficult to say the words we feel, but a song can do it for us. There is no doubt that music can set a mood and that deep inside we resonate with lyrics. Songs of faith, can lead us closer to God. Music in movies helps communicate to the viewer different emotions. In the movie, “The Holiday,”[1] Miles (Jack Black) tells Iris (Kate Winslet) that he wrote her a song and he “used only the good notes.” For Arthur (Eli Wallach), he wrote a spunky, lively tune to which Iris says, “It sounds like him.” In a video store, Miles plays a game with Iris and when coming to the film, “Jaws,”[2] Miles sings two notes and he says, “Just two notes and you have a villain.” You know in movies that something is about to happen based on the background music. The chords and rhythms the artist uses can make us happy, sad, scared, or on edge. They can also arouse that emotion called “love.” Music, both its lyrics and notes, speaks to our hearts and we feel inside what the writer is communicating through notes and words. Send a few lyrics of your chosen love song at a time, spreading them out through the day so he/she receives several texts from you all day long. At the end of the work day, text a YouTube link of the song. When you get home, take time to tell each other why you chose that song.
