Through prayer, Biblical promises, and songs, feelings of being overwhelmed or crushed by the weight of the cares of this world can be traded in for joyous, victorious, abundant life as we cast all our cares upon the One who cares for us.
While Martha was distracted with much serving, Mary took time for some spiritual self-care. The difference is that Martha was worried and troubled about many things, but Mary chose the good part of hearing Jesus’ Words and that could not be taken away from her.
Martha was not happy about Mary just sitting while she did all the work. She approached Jesus and asked him to tell Mary to come help with the chores. Jesus’ response was, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
In the Bible, Mary knew what it was like to sit at Jesus’ feet. When Jesus came to visit Mary, Martha and Lazarus, Martha was worried, troubled, and distracted as she scurried around serving. But Mary paused to simply sit at the feet of Jesus.
Christian songs are rooted in Biblical promises that breathe life into our weary souls, help us remember why we are serving God in our ministry capacity, and help bring us to the feet of Jesus where we can simply bask in his presence and worship Him.
