Do we need a revival?

What is adultery?

Obviously adultery is sexual relationships with someone else’s spouse. Today it is commonly known as “having an affair.” But like the command to not commit murder, there is more to this command than just being unfaithful in your marriage. Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-28, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” The same is true if a woman looks at a man with lustful intent.

Lust and adultery is rampant and the need for revival is great

Lust and adultery destroys trust and intimacy in a marriage. In Matthew 19:6, Jesus said, “What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Lust and adultery creates jealousy and breaks the bonds of trust in such as way that it destroys families. So you know that “hot” Hollywood hunk or babe? Lusting after them makes you guilty of the 7th commandment. Our culture today not only makes it easy to lust, but encourages us to lust after others. But if we want to see a different world, revival is needed.

Be careful to to cause others to fall into lust and adultery

As Christians, we have a responsibility to dress modestly. Showing off more body than clothed only invites someone to fall into sin by breaking the commandment to not commit adultery. Additionally, when you dress modestly, it shows self respect and it also shows respect to your spouse because you’re keeping the intimacy between you protected by covering it up – so cover up!

The Need for Revival

1. Is there a person that you lust after that you are not married to?
2. Are you in an adulterous affair – or have you been in the past that you have not come clean about?
3. Do you honor your vows and your spouse by dressing modestly and preserving the intimacy between just the two of you?
4. If you are not married, you can also break this commandment by lusting after other person. God also makes it clear in the Bible that sex should be reserved for within the bonds of marriage. So any sex outside of marriage, is sin.

Praying for Revival

Father, we probably are more guilty of breaking this commandment than we realize. Open our eyes and show us how we are guilty and may we repent and seek your forgiveness. Lord, keep our marriages pure and our eyes and hearts true to the one we vowed to be married to. If we honor our marriage vows, our homes can be transformed and a revival can begin in our marriage that spreads to our home, neighborhood, community, nation, and around the world. We ask that Satan not be allowed to destroy the union that was joined together in your sight.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.
