Words that Never End

I don’t do mornings

When Brian started talking about getting married, I told him he needed to know two things about me: 1) I was expensive and 2) I don’t do mornings. He found out both were true. Once Brian is up and moving around he’s awake and ready to go. Me – not so much. I don’t like a lot of talking. I need to ease into my day. On the mornings he wants to carry on a full conversation before I’ve had times to get fully awake and ready to face the day, I’m silently begging him to stop talking and wish his words would just go away. But over the years, I’ve learned the value of spending time every morning with the Words that never end – the Bible.

Heaven and Earth will pass away

Jesus said in Matthew 24:35 that one day heaven and earth will pass away – meaning the physical earth will disappear. It will all come to an end and be no more.  2 Peter 3:11–12 tells us exactly how the Earth will cease to be: “The day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire. . . . That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.”

God’s Words will never end

However, there will never be an end to His Word. The promises of God’s Word are reliable, true, and trustworthy – which means our salvation is secure. The prophet Isaiah wrote, “The heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail” (Isaiah 51:6).

God’s promises are dependable

God’s promises are more dependable than the ground we walk on and the air we breathe. They are more sure than even the existence of the universe. At the time Jesus said these words, He knew that one day the disciples would put their very lives on the line for Him and He wanted them to know that they could trust that every Word was true. Today, we still have the assurance and are able to depend on the teachings and promises found in the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. Because we know that there will come a day when Earth will be no more, it is wiser to trust in the never-ending words of Christ than to put our trust in anything earthly. Why? Because while the physical earth will disappear, our souls do not – they live for eternity — either in heaven with Christ or in hell.

We don’t have to wait for God to be ready to spend time with us

As for Brian, I’ve learned to get up before Him and spend my first hour of the day in God’s Word so that by the time Brian wakes up, I’m ready face the day with him. On the rare days that he is awake first, he has learned over the years to give me that time to catch up to him. Thankfully, we never have to wait for God to be ready to talk and share the day with us. He’s always there and the Words He has for us is always ready for every moment. Because His inspired words are preserved for us through the Bible, His words will never end.

Matthew 24:35. Words Without End

Feb 7 Matthew 24 35 KJV.png

When Brian started talking about getting married, I told him he needed to know two things about me: 1) I was expensive and 2) I don’t do mornings. He found out both were true. Once Brian is up and moving around he’s awake and ready to go. Me – not so much. I don’t like a lot of talking. I need to ease into my day. On the mornings he wants to carry on a full conversation before I’ve had times to get fully awake and ready to face the day, I’m silently begging him to stop talking and wish his words would just go away. In fact, for the first hour or two, the whole world could pass away if I could just hit the snooze another time (or two) and pull the covers over my head.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:35 that one day heaven and earth will all come to and end, but there will never be an end to His Word. The promises of God’s Word are reliable, true, and trustworthy. They are more dependable than the ground we walk on and the air we breathe. They are more sure than even the existence of the universe. At the time Jesus said these words, He knew that one day the disciples would put their very lives on the line for Him and He wanted them to know that they could trust that every Word was true. Memorize & Meditate

scripture memory graphic

Each week we will post a scripture to challenge you to hide God’s Word in your heart. Commit it to memory, meditate on it and apply it to your life.

February 4-10

Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Meditate and apply:

  1. In a sermon my dad preached, he illustrated a story in which each time a woman came to a scripture that she didn’t like, she would cut that scripture out of the Bible, leaving only the verses that she did like. Cutting verses out – or removing the Bible all together  from our lives, does not negate God’s Word. Every part of it still remains – the promises, the laws, and His plan for our salvation.
  2. Jesus’ words are firmer than earth’s bedrock, more sound than the foundations of heaven, and more certain than even the existence of the universe. Because of this we have a surety that His promises are true and that the Bible is true.
  3. Can you identify times in history were man has attempted to eradicate the Bible? No matter what man has done, God’s Word is still today living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
