“Which are you giving the Holy Spirit to inhabit as His home? A run-down, abandoned home or a mansion? Would the Holy Spirit be embarrassed to call your temple home? Would Jesus say that you appear beautiful on the outside, but not on the inside?” — Julia Bruce
“Look at the accusation Jesus makes in Matthew 23:27: ‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity.”– Julia Bruce
“Sometimes we can become so absorbed in the aesthetics of our churches, campuses, or grounds that we forget it’s the work Christ does in our various ministries that truly matter – not how pleasing to the eye we look on the outside.” — Julia Bruce
Jesus described the scribes and Pharisees as beautiful on the outside, but on the inside they were nothing more than rotting, decaying bones. They painted a good picture of “righteousness” for everyone to see, but their hearts were full of pride and sin. Most of us don’t like people like that, but sometimes we are just as guilty.
