Wisdom from Above

by Julia M. Bruce, MSPC, Mental Health Coach,
Keynote Speaker, CEO, Wellspring Christian Ministries

Word of Wisdom from James

The book of James gives us wisdom for practical, Christian living. In James 3, James first addresses the power of our words, but even a lost person can at times control their tongue. So in James 3:13-18, James contrasts the foolish wisdom of the world with Godly wisdom from above.

We all have been guilty of doing stupid things that we end up regretting. But God gives wisdom to all who ask for it. In fact, the Bible tells us that the most important thing we can do in life is to seek wisdom that comes from above. Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding.” Godly wisdom is the most precious thing we could pursue. Proverbs 16:16 tells us that wisdom is better than gold and understanding better than silver.

What is wisdom?

Wisdom by definition is, “The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight; common sense; good judgment, the sum of learning through the ages; knowledge.

Wisdom is not always linked with age, experience or education. Take children for instance. Patrick, age 10, says, “Never trust a dog to watch your food.” Michael, age 14, says, “When your dad is mad at you and asks, ‘Do I look stupid?’ don’t answer him.” Wise man that Michael, he also said, “Never tell your mom her diet isn’t working.”

Worldly wisdom vs. Godly wisdom

There is a big difference between ungodly or worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom. Warren Buffett is the second richest man in the world. He is worth over 44 billion. In June of 2005, buffet decided to raise money for his charitable foundation, by offering an online auction in e-bay for someone to have lunch with him. The winning bid was $351,100—the price of access to the world’s second richest man.

If the value of worldly wisdom is that high for a lunch appointment; what price would we put on the wealth of wisdom we have right here in God’s Word?

In James 3:13-18, the Bible asks the question who is wise and understanding among you? Wise describes someone with moral insight and skill in the practical issues of life. Understanding refers to one who is an intellectual and comprehends the world of science.

The Bible is defining the vast sum of wisdom and claiming how that wisdom will be demonstrated.

Godly Wisdom shown in conduct

James writes in verse 17, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without favoritism and hypocrisy.” Godly wisdom is demonstrated in a life surrendered to God. This person does not have to boast about how wise they are, all will see it lived out in front of them.

In the first part of James, chapter 3, James says that anyone who is religious but does not keep a tight reign on their tongue their religion was worthless. We he also says that to be a Christian is more than saying we are a Christian, we must prove it by the life we live. Now, in verses 13-18, James outlines how this is done. He says in verse 13 that our good conduct, our works, will be evidenced by seven traits found in verse 17.

7 traits that provide evidence of good wisdom

1. A person with Godly wisdom is Pure

To be pure means to be clean or innocent. This is the wisdom that accomplishes good works with no false motives involved. It is a person whose life is a testimony of pure character and honesty before God.

2. A person with Godly wisdom is Peaceable

To be peaceable does not mean being a push-over. It is someone who strives to be at peace. One who remains calm under stress and has let go of anxiety.

3. A person with Godly wisdom is Gentle

Gentleness is a sensitivity of disposition and kindness of behavior, founded on strength and prompted by love. A gentle person is one who is mild mannered and patient. It includes showing care and respect for others in the way that you act and speak towards them.

4. A person with Godly wisdom is Willing to Yield

A person willing to yield does not mean he or she is easily persuaded but one who can listen to all sides and is willing to do the right thing even if it isn’t their idea. They have a teachable spirit.

5. A person with Godly wisdom is Full of Mercy and Good fruits

A person full of mercy lives a life of compassion and honesty. They are known by their forgiving spirit and their impeccable character.

6. A person with Godly wisdom is Without partiality

In other words, they are impartial. They do not take sides or involve themselves in frivolous arguments. They seek to be peacemakers.

7. A person with Godly wisdom is Without hypocrisy

They are genuine. What you see is what you get. They will not tell one person one thing or then tell someone else a different story.

This is how our conduct is supposed to be. We are to demonstrate these traits in our daily conversation our daily conduct should resemble Godliness.

Godly wisdom shown in Character

In verse 13, James tells us what kind of character we should show through our lives, “meekness of wisdom.” We tend to think meekness is weakness, but the word picture in the Greek for meekness is a horse under control. The bit in the horse’s mouths direct them where they need to go. Our character should be directed by God, and if it is then the power of God is flowing through our lives.

Those who possess this character, those who are truly wise, are empowered with their wisdom from on high. The fruit or evidence of this conduct is the righteousness in our lives. That word righteousness means character. The character of a Godly life is shown in peace. The word peace means prosperity.

The psalmist wrote: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:1-3)

God is saying the conduct and the character of this Christian will be seen by all and blessed from above.

Ungodly Wisdom

America today is looking for wisdom from the world. Oprah, Dr. Phil seem to be the leading authority for America to find help for their struggles.

In Dr. Os Guinness’ article entitled “America’s Last Men and Their Magnificent Talking Cure” he talks about how America has become the world capital of psychological-mind-set and therapeutic endeavor. Although America had only 6% of the world’s population, it boasted over a third of the world’s psychiatrists, and over half the world’s clinical psychologists. 80 million Americans have now sought help from therapists. An estimated 10 million are doing so every year. I’m not against psychiatry. In fact, I have a bachelors degree in psychology and a masters in professional counseling. However, we cannot ignore the need to be seeking biblical counseling if we are truly seeking wisdom from above.

Traits of ungodly wisdom

1. “bitter envying.”

Where there is bitterness it possesses the whole life. It’s when a person holds on to a hurt from years gone by. Envying what someone else has.

James is painting a picture of an unwise person that is afraid of losing something. They become uncooperative and competitive.

2. “self-seeking

This person is ambitious, asking what’s in it for me. The phrase actually means someone who shows an inordinate desire for power or prestige. It is hidden motives of wanting our own way.

3. It’s action “in your hearts”

The heart is the origin of all moral actions. Jesus said in Matthew 12:34, “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” He also said in Matthew 15:18-19, “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.”

The heart can be so self-deceptive that we lie against the truth. When jealousy and self-seeking prevail in the heart we lie to ourselves. We begin to base our thinking off someone or some situation based entirely on lies. Paul teaches Timothy, ““And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.” (2 Timothy 2:24-26

4. Does not come from above

Ungodly wisdom is the wisdom of the world, but really it is the wisdom from the evil one. It can be called psychology, philosophy, science or religion. But when it does not measure up against the Bible, it is worldly wisdom, not Godly wisdom. Sigmund Freud, the father of modern psychology, hated Christianity. He called himself, “a completely Godless Jew, and a hopeless pagan.” In 1918 he wrote, “I have found little that is good about human beings on the whole. In my experience most of them are trash.” Unfinished Business, (pg.121)

Because it does not come from above, earthly wisdom comes from the world’s system. It is tied to this world and it looks to the earthly standards of morality, success, and counsel. It has earthly motives and earthly methods.

5. It is opposed to spiritual wisdom

It is also opposed to spiritual, Godly wisdom. William Barclay in his commentary says this wisdom acts like an animal. It’s only thought is personal pleasure and fleshly desires. One only has to look to Hollywood to see this wisdom and how it has influenced our culture today.

6. It is demonically influenced.

John Wesley translated this word, “such as Satan breathes into the soul.” Jealousy and bitterness are the evidences of demonic influence. James tells us in verse 16 that where these things exist, confusion and evil are evident and the result is unruly confusion and every evil thing. That is exactly what the enemy wants to do in our lives and in our churches: cause confusion and bring in every evil thing. He wants our lives to be unruly and unstable so that our churches will be filled with people relying on earthly wisdom rather than Godly wisdom. Satan wants us operating in our own strength, because then we won’t walk in faith. He wans us operating in our own strength, because then we are not operating in the strength of God.

Satan also wants to bring into our lives every evil thing – the things that are useless or good for nothing. When the righteousness of Godly wisdom is absent every evil practice exists. This is how the enemy destroys us. Christians and churches can commit evil, because they are relying on earthly, fleshly, demonic wisdom to be the influence in their lives.

Are you measuring wisdom by God’s stands or the world’s?

Rather than seeking God’s wisdom and God’s standard for their lives, many believers have been brainwashed by the world and the church has lost its power and influence because the people have allowed the world to infiltrate the church.

Carl Sandberg, the American poet, wrote a massive volume on President Abraham Lincoln and the war years. The 68th chapter has an interesting title borrowed from a woodsman’s proverb. Its title is, “A Tree is Best Measured when it is Down.” You see, you cannot accurately measure the height of a tree until it is cut down. The point Sandberg was making was that only after the death of Lincoln could people assess the value and impact of his life.

Solomon’s wisdom was a gift from God, but his heart later turned away from it

But Lincoln’s many achievements were not at all as impressive as those of another man. This man was an author, diplomat, poet, song writer, theologian, a philosopher, philanthropist, architect, builder, engineer, extremely wealthy, and a king. King Solomon. Listen to what his dad told him in Proverbs 4:3-7, “For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (KJV)

Young Solomon listened to his father King David. In 2 Chronicles 1:7, God asked Solomon to ask for whatever he wanted. In v.10 Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge to lead God’s people.

King Solomon was the wealthiest, wisest man to ever live. The nation of Israel prospered under his leadership unlike any other time in their history. However, the King’s heart was turned in 1 Kings 11, The wisdom he had acquired as God’s gift he abandoned for earthly, sensual, demonic influence.

“Who is wise and understanding among you?” When our lives are measured do we show God’s wisdom in our daily walk?

The Path to Sin

Satan is constantly trying to trip us up and he doesn’t even play fair because he uses our own desires as bait to get us to sin. James tells us the five steps that lead us down the path to sin in James 1:14-15, “But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” This download helps you identify your desires so that you can better recognize when Satan is baiting you and you can avoid falling into sin. When used along with prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to identify the desires that Satan baits you with, you can then ask the Holy Spirit to help you not become a victim to the bait of your desires. Luke 12:29,31. The Pointlessness of Worry

April 10 Luke 12 29 and 31

In Luke 12, Jesus taught that we should not be overcome with worry over the basic needs of life. Yet isn’t that difficult to do when you’re not sure how to make ends meet because you’re laid off work in the midst of a pandemic? How do not be overcome with worry in the middle of a world-wide pandemic where so many are not just getting sick — but dying?

When we give in to worry, it divides our attention and distracts us from trusting God. When that happens we have a shift in focus. Instead of focusing on God, we focus on our health, finances, marriage, children, career and make these things our priority. However, we must remember that there is absolutely nothing in this world that can bring about stability, confidence or peace. If you strive after the things of this world so that they are what you live for, then your life will be filled with worry and anxiety. When our priorities and allegiances are founded in the things of this world and we place all our hope and confidence in them, we become unstable and obsessively worry about the things in life that are fleeting.

So how, then, do we shift our focus back to God and strive for living a life of abundant joy? Paul gives us four counter attacks to worry: Prayer, Ponder, Praise and Prepare. — click to tweet

First, Paul tells us to pray:

“Do not be anxious [do not worry] about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)

For every need we experience, we should immediately bring them to God in prayer. In fact, James 4:2 says “You do not have because you do not ask.” In Isaiah 41:10, God says, “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” In Luke 12, Jesus taught that if God will make sure the birds of the air are fed, how much more would he ensure that His own children’s needs are met. God might not always meet our needs in a way that we imagine, but God does promise to meet them. So, whatever you are worried about right now, stop and pray. Prayer should always be a first point of attack against worry.

Second, Paul teaches us to ponder.

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things. (Philippians 4:8)

We need to ponder over things that are eternal, such as acknowledging the blessings that God has sent us before and remembering the times He met our needs in the past. Pondering on the things of God that have eternal value – things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable – will shift our focus back from a “worldliness” point of view to a “Godliness” point of view. Pondering is our second point of attack because it is just about near impossible to both ponder on the things of God and the things we worry about at the same time.

Our third point of attack is Praise.

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. (Hebrews 13:5) Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18)

God wants our praise no matter what our circumstances. –Click to tweet

King David puts it this way in Psalm 150:

Hallelujah! Praise God in His sanctuary. Praise Him in His mighty heavens. Praise him for His powerful acts; praise Him for His abundant greatness. Praise Him with trumpet blast; praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dance; praise Him with flute and strings. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Hallelujah!

Praise is a counter attack to worry because you can’t worry and genuinely praise at the same time. We can praise God for how he will answer our prayers and respond to our needs even before He does because we can trust Him to keep His promises.

Lastly, to counter attack worry, we need to prepare.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)

When you pray for God to meet a need, do you say the words but in your heart don’t really expect God to do anything? God said He will meet our every need. It doesn’t mean that we get everything we want, but He will meet our needs. 1 John 5:14-15 tells us: “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” One part of this verse to pay special attention to is the tiny word “if.” This verse tells that IF we ask according to His will, THEN wen can know that He hears us. In James 4:3, Paul wrote: “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” Remember that God’s promise is to meet our needs – not every single desire. God is not a genie in a bottle to grant our every wish. It is true that at times God also graciously  gives us some of our wants, but “wants” are not part of His promise.  So, if we know that what we are asking Him for is a need that lines up with His will, what are we doing to prepare for God to meet that need as we wait expectantly for Him?

Because we live in a broken and fallen world, there will be times that worry creeps in and tries to steal our focus away from God and the abundant joy that is ours as children of God. However, when we bring these concerns to God in prayer, ponder on things of eternal value as well as God’s grace and goodness in our lives, give Him the praise that is due Him and prepare to receive His divine answer to meeting our needs, then we can defeat worry and grow in our faith and trust of a loving, providing God.

God, when worry tries to steal our attention away from you, help us remember to pray, ponder, praise, and prepare for your very best that you already have in mind for us. Thank you for meeting our needs.

078924: A Nation in Crisis

A Nation in Crisis

By Ray Stedman / Discovery House

Every day the headlines announce more violence and evil. Our hearts groan as we wonder what life will be like for the next generation. It all seems hopeless, which is probably how Jeremiah felt as he lived among the people of the nation of Judah.

Jeremiah was a reluctant but faithful prophet who spent forty-two years serving God and warning the people to repent. His heart was saddened and angered by the people’s indifference to God and the moral decay that surrounded him. Everything was falling apart–yet Jeremiah continued to seek the Lord.

As we face personal trauma and national crisis, we can learn from the prophet’s example. Ray Stedman walks us through the book of Jeremiah, revealing that repentance was the only answer then–and it’s the only answer today. When people repent, God is faithful to His Word, planting the seeds of new life and giving us hope.

Awakening: How American Can Turn from Economic and Moral Destruction Back to Greatness

Are we watching our nation commit suicide? Is America, like a modern-day Roman Empire, doomed to moral decay and demise? In his new book, Awakening: How America Can Turn from Economic and Moral Destruction to God’s Blessing, Ralph Reed, reveals how the United States has abandoned its founding principles and spiritual heritage. Yet Reed, adviser to the Bush-Cheney campaigns and former executive director of the Christian Coalition, believes better days are ahead for our nation. This book, featuring practical action points and a bold pro-family plan, provides a road map we can follow to restore America back to God’s blessing.

Find out how to reenergize our call to effective citizenship and revive America’s core values of faith, personal responsibility, and liberty. As the 2014 election cycle approaches, Awakening, is a timely plea for people of faith to spark a spiritual and moral awakening that will reverse the cycle of destruction, renew our country, and see God heal our land.

079864: Is This the End? Signs of God"s Providence in a Disturbing New World

Is This the End? Signs of God’s Providence in a Disturbing New World

By Dr. David Jeremiah / Thomas Nelson

Never have the headlines been this jarring, the cultural changes this rapid, or the moral decay this pronounced. What on earth is happening? After each new occurrence, the most oft-heard questions are, “Will the world ever be the same again?” and “Where is God in all of this?”Over the last few decades, Dr. David Jeremiah has become one of the world’s most sought-after Christian leaders on topics that deal with biblical application and modern culture. And few would dispute that the pace at which things are currently changing is unprecedented. The time has come to accept this new normal, Jeremiah says, and understand how God’s hand is still at work on His eternal plan for mankind.

No one can afford to ignore these warnings, but all can better understand the greater story and the role we each play in this changing world. From prophetic clues in Scripture to an understanding of the power of Christ in all believers, this book directs us on a clear path forward.

The Message of Joel, Micah, and Habakkuk: The Bible Speaks Today [BST]

By David Prior / InterVarsity Press

Where is God in times of disaster? How can God allow suffering? What are God’s people to do about moral decay in society? While people throughout the ages have long pondered these questions, three of the Minor Prophets–Joel, Micah, and Habbakuk–provide insights to these perennial problems. The Bible Speaks Today is a series of both Old Testament and New Testament expositions, which are characterized by a threefold ideal: to expound the biblical text with accuracy, to relate it to contemporary life, and to be readable.

David Prior has pastured churches in Cape Town, South Africa, and Oxford, England. He now travels widely, lecturing on the local church around the world. He is the author of The Message of 1 Corinthians in the Bible Speaks series.

Society’s widening gap between technological achievement and moral decay compels men of courage, integrity and true manhood to stand strong. In a quest for satisfaction, many men have lost the meaning of manhood, surrendering ideals to things immoral, illegal, unethical or irresponsible. Today’s tough times require men to overcome dangerous philosophies and bring hope, dignity and order back to a world in desperate need – men who are willing to be heroes.”

Newly edited edition with foreward by Brian Houston.

God, Help Me Rebuild My Broken World: Fortifying Your Faith in Difficult Times

By Michael Youssef / Harvest House Publishers

With Society Crumbling Around Us, It’s Time to Rebuild

We live in a post-Christian age marked by moral and spiritual decay. We have watched our comfortable walls collapse as our faith has been attacked on every side.

But take heart! God can raise up leaders dedicated to defending His truth and following His blueprints for holy living. One of those leaders might be you – because no matter where you live and what you do, you have a circle of influence.

And your influence is desperately needed.

How does a believer construct secure barriers to hold back the discouragement and moral danger of this world? Respected ministry leader Michael Youssef takes you through the book of Nehemiah to help you learn the keys to godly leadership and restoration.

Discover what it takes to rebuild walls in this highly relevant study of a people who traded their rubble for rejoicing.

Come Down, Lord!

By Roger Ellsworth / Banner of Truth

Come Down, Lord! is a succinct, readable and biblically-based treatment of the vital theme of revival. Its seven short chapters go directly to the heart of the matter, as their headings indicate: We miss You; We need you; We wait for You; We will meet You; We have wronged You; We belong to You; We beseech You.Taking as his starting place the widespread absence of the sense of God’s holy presence and our need of his grace, Roger Ellsworth traces the profound analysis of the church’s spiritual decay outlined in Isaiah 63:3-64:12, and applies its message to our times.

Nothing Is Wasted: How God Redeems What is Broken

By Joseph Bentz / Beacon Hill Press

In a world that can feel overwhelming, it is easy to see loss as the overriding theme of our existence. From the stress of finances to the pain of aging, we see decay all around us. We see the corrupt nature of a fallen world.

Despite the seeming chaos, God’s loving song of redemption echoes through every fiber of creation. Sometimes we hear the melody loud and clear, but more often it is like the refrain of a musical score that is background to a film-present but so subtle we may be unaware of it.

In Nothing Is Wasted: How God Redeems What is Broken Joseph Bentz explores how God clues us in to the big picture of redemption and eternity amid the most difficult and unlovely things in our lives. He helps us remember how a faithful and all-powerful God desires to transform our pain into beauty.

Philippians 4:8. Think on these things

by Julia Bruce

Philippians 4 8

What are the things that you let your mind dwell on? Do you dwell on inconsequential things such as the upcoming episode of your favorite TV show? The latest posts on Facebook or other social media? Who won this weeks’ football game? How to get into the next bigger, fancier car than your neighbor has?

Sometime our mind dwell on the things that worry us, such as the looming deadline, the goals you must meet at work, the disagreement you had with your spouse last night, how to get that bill paid or the money for that unexpected repair, the medical report you just got, the merger that just happened and whether you still have a job, or the rebellious child that refuses to follow any household rules. Does you mind dwell on such things so much so that you lose sleep, have high blood pressure, or other health issues due to worry, stress, and anxiety? Often what we worry about has answers in the Bible. Through prayer and leading of the Holy Spirit, God will help us find solutions. Instead of worrying, we should dwell on God’s promises as we depend on Him to work it out. (click to tweet)

The mind is immensely powerful and our thoughts dictate a large part of who we actually area. In psychology it’s called “self-talk.” What we tell our minds about our self we will come to believe. If you say, “I’m just a worthless failure,” you will come to believe it and chances are your life will take on characteristics of being a failure. If you’ve ever heard someone say, “They’ve already made up their mind and there’s no changing it now,” that’s exactly what happens. The ideas, thoughts, and images in our minds hold an invisible power over us that dictates how we behave and the characteristics that define who we are. If you have negative self-talk, it can be changed when our minds dwell on the things of God. (click to tweet)

God wants our minds to dwell on things that are honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable. He wants to dwell on things that are of moral excellence and praise. Did you notice that each of the things we are to dwell on are also character traits of God? (click to tweet)  When we dwell on these things and on God, then Philippians 4:7 comes to life in our hearts, which says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Dwelling on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, of moral excellence and praise will keep our hearts and minds on Christ and He will guard us and give us peace.

Cover_mBOOKING NOW to be a host site for the NEW God, Love & Marshmallow Wars Book Tour & Couples Conference:

This event helps couples understand why the daily activities found in the book will equip them to build a stronger marriage and the book provides them with 365 intentional activities to take what they learn at the event and apply it on a daily basis. Through the event, couples will discover the Biblical “why” behind the categories of activities found in the book and the “how” these activities are important to building a stronger marriage. Focus points of the event includes :

  • How memorizing scripture together and studying God’s Word together as they study, meditate and apply scriptures related to marriage and life issues will help them develop marriages that honor God.
  • Why utilizing fun conversation starters that spark meaningful conversations will keep interest alive as they continually learn new things about each other.
  • Why keeping romance alive is essential to intimacy and connectivity.
  • How making memories and working together builds relationship investment bonds and how these investment bonds can become the knots that keeps them together through the tough times.
  • How they can understand what they are or are not contributing to the marriage as well as how they might be contributing to problems or potential problems within the relationship through the use of targeted, intentional personal reflections
  • Why it is important that couples never stop dating and how group dates with Christian friends can be both an encouragement and accountability to their own relationship.

During the event, couples will be given an activity from each focus point to do together, making this event an interactive, fun, and engaging event with practical, hands-on learning. Unlike other couple events that are over when the event ends, couples who attend the GLMW event will be able to apply what they learn when utilizing the book on a daily basis for a year. Since the book is not dated, couples are able to reuse the activities year after year to continue being intentional in strengthening their relationship with each other and with God as they strive to live out God’s design for marriage every day.

Learn more about hosting this event at your church or conference site by clicking here.

About the book: The GLMW book contains 365 daily challenges for couples to strengthen their relationships to each other and with God.
