Colossians 3:1-2

Dec 4 Colossians 3 1-2

There is so much hope at Christmas time. Kids hoping Santa will bring them what they want for Christmas. Parents hoping their children will be able to make it home for the holidays. People hoping a loved one will get one more Christmas together. Some hope for a white Christmas. Some hope they will just be able to survive the holidays. The earthly things we hope for are not guaranteed, but even if we receive what we hope form, they don’t last forever. Kids will outgrow the toy they long for and it will get pushed back to the bottom of the toy box until it’s cleaned out and donated or passed down to a sibling. Children make it home for the holidays, but then leave again. We might get that one more Christmas, but eventually we all leave this world. And those of us in Florida have little hope of a white Christmas. If we survive the holidays, we still have to survive the other 364 days out of the year.

What a difference it makes when we set our eyes on the things above. Things like God’s unfailing love, His never ending mercies that are new every morning, the blessings He showers us with every day and eternal life with Him where there is no more sorrow, no more sickness, and no more death. When our hopes are placed on the eternal things of God, we can find rest and strength no matter what the holidays bring and that hope gives us an eternal, unwavering joy. Take a few moments today to set your eyes on the eternal hope we have in Jesus.
