When All you Got Is Good Enough

Have you ever thought that what you had to offer God was embarrassingly small or not enough? Maybe you feel that someone else can do it better than you. Maybe you feel unqualified. Or maybe you feel like you’ve messed up so much in your life that God could never use you. But what if what you have is good enough? What if you — in all your messed up ways — are exactly what God is looking for?

You’re Good Enough – so stop comparing

Stop comparing yourself to what others have to offer. God doesn’t look for the big givers. He isn’t interested in the best talent or the biggest wallet. He isn’t looking for the pastor with the best catchy phrases and a big following. Nor is He looking for the woman who writes the best selling Bible studies. Certainly God uses these people and they do a great work for God. But more than anything, God desires the person who is sold out to Him. He is looking for the willing heart totally surrendered to His plan. Certainly “giving all” can be big gifts, but sometimes it’s just two small coins.

The Widow’s mites were more than enough in the eyes of Jesus

A mite was a tiny copper coin and the smallest in Jewish currency. The two of them together made up a penny. As Jesus watched the people in the temple, this old widow woman caught His attention as she dropped her two tiny mites in the temple coffer. For this widow woman who caught Jesus’ attention, she may have thought all she had to give was two tiny cooper coins, but in doing so, her story was recorded in both Mark’s gospel and Luke’s and from her sacrificial gift, we can learn three things.

The Widow’s small gift was good enough because it was sacrificial

The first thing we see is that her sacrificial gift caught Jesus’ attention. God always sees what man overlooks and He thought her gift was important enough to add to His Word (not once, but twice!) for all the generations that followed. As others gave “out of their abundance,” their coins would have made a lot of noise as they were dropped into the coffers. The widow’s mites hardly made a sound at all – yet all of heaven heard it. What no one else noticed, caught the eye of God.

The Widow’s gift was good enough because God evaluates differently

Second, the widow teaches us that God evaluates things differently than man does. Her two mites only added up to a penny, but Jesus said she had given more than the people who dropped lots of coins in the coffer. Why? Because her gift was sacrificial – it was all she had. It was her entire livelihood. The rich, however, still had plenty of money left after they gave to God. They had not sacrificed anything in what they gave. The widow gave God her everything, trusting Him to supply and meet her needs.

In Proverbs 21:2, we read that God weighs our hearts. In Jeremiah 17:10, God says that he searches the heart and tests the mind. You see, God doesn’t “need” anything we have to offer. He doesn’t need our money, our time, our talents, or our service. What we offer Him, should be out of a thankful heart for what He has done for us. God knows what motivates us to give. If its done out of duty or responsibility, it doesn’t honor and glorify Him. If it’s done to point attention to ourselves, then we get the glory rather than God. But when we give sacrificially out of our love for Him, then He receives the honor and glory.

The Widow’s gift was good enough because it was given out of faith

The third thing we can learn from the widow is faith. One might ask, “whatever could one buy with just two mites?” Some of those rich givers that day might have sneered at her tiny offering, had they noticed. To the widow, it didn’t matter. She gave her all out of her faith that God would use it and that God would meet all of her needs. The two tiny cooper coins that added up to a penny was her entire livelihood and she chose to give it to God because she had faith that He would accept her gift, use it to glorify Him, and that He would meet her needs.

The Widow’s gift was good enough for Jesus to still teach us today

I’m sure she had no idea that her sacrificial gift would be recorded in two gospels that became part of our Bible and that God would use it to teach us that 1) God sees what others overlook, 2) God evaluates things differently than man, and 3) that when we give what we have in faith God will use it for His glory. So if you feel that God has been calling you to give or serve in some way, but you felt that what you had to offer Him was too small, insignificant, or not good enough, then know that you have exactly what God is looking for. Give him your all and He will receive the glory. Offer all that you have and just watch what God will do with your sacrificial gift.

Luke 21:25-28. What Does the Coming of the Son of Man Mean for You?

April 28 Luke 21 25-28

Whenever things in life get difficult, we typically want to avoid it. I have seen people spend more time and energy trying to avoid doing work than doing the work itself. For some, they waste time preparing for the task just to avoid doing the task. We certainly need to prepare for bigger tasks and make sure we have all the resources at hand that the task will demand. We need to gather information and knowledge so that we can do that task well. But sometimes we can be guilty of prepping so that we do not have to feel guilty of not doing. We can also be guilty of avoiding news we do not really want to hear. You know the news is inevitable, but you put it off as long as you can.

Most of us, at some level, understand an “end time” time is coming. Even non-Christians will speak of the end of the world. Hollywood has made a fortune off movies about the end of the world – everything from alien invasions to apocalyptic disease to nuclear bombs destroying the planet. We flock to such movies and enjoy them without ever considering the reality that the world as we know it will – at some point – come to an end. It’s the kind of news we want to avoid – but what God has ordained to come is going to come. And if we listen to the words of Jesus, he doesn’t just say, “Oh, and by the way, one day this world will end,” and then move on. He gives us information to prepare us and make us ready. Through visions to prophets, John, and His own words, he prepares us for what is to come.

With COVID19, there have been those asking and wondering, “Is this the end times? Is this where 1/3 of the earth’s population will be killed?” Well, we are not going to debate that question because honestly, Jesus told us that even He does not know the appointed time. Only God knows. So, whenever you hear or see people saying that Jesus is returning on a certain date or that the end of the world is on a certain date – beware of the trap. Only God has that information (Mark 13:32) Yet, Jesus did give us some sings as we prepare for His return and he told us to watch for these signs. He didn’t issue forth a challenge and say, “I bet you can’t guess when I will return again.” He simply said “watch.” And the purpose for watching is so that we can know the time is near and be spiritually prepared for His coming. If we are spiritually prepared (meaning we have placed our faith and trust in Him as our Lord and Savior), then his coming is something we can look forward to with excitement and anticipation. But if we have not, then His coming again is something to dread and fear.

In Luke 21:7-29, He says there will be wars, earthquakes, famines, and persecution. In verses 20-24, He talks about the destruction of Jerusalem. And then in verses 25-28, He talks about the end of the age with the sun, moon, and stars doing abnormal things. He says the “celestial powers will be shaken.” Since the moon controls our tides, if the moon does an abnormal thing, it could trigger hurricanes or tsunamis. In verse 28, Jesus talks about a roaring and tossing sea and of people filled with anguish. He says, “People will faint from fear and expectation of the things that are coming on the world.” And then the final sign, is the coming of the “Son of Man.” Long before Jesus came, God gave a vision to Daniel about this event. In Daniel 7:13-14, we read: “

“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”

What a description of Jesus! Jesus himself reiterates the Daniel passage in verse 27-28. He says he will return in a cloud with great power and glory in such a way that the entire world will know the time has come. No one will sit around saying, “Is this it?” Everyone will know. And for every single person the meaning will be one of two possibilities: either it will be judgement day or redemption day. Those who are lost will face judgement day. But for the Christian, Jesus says: Look up! For your redemption has come.

What does the coming of the Son of Man mean for you? Judgement or Redemption?

We hope you’ll join us in praying for God to pour out the Holy Spirit with a mighty rushing wind of revival for our nation and around the world.

Our key verse for revival is 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.  For the past few  weeks, we have been focusing on repentance. This week, we look at the spiritual transformation that takes place when we surrender our heart to God.

Luke 21:3-4. When All you Got Is Good Enough

April 27 Luke 21 3-4 NKJV

Have you ever thought that what you had to offer God was embarrassingly small or not enough? Maybe you feel that someone else can do it better than you. Maybe you feel unqualified. Maybe you feel like you’ve messed up so much in your life that God could never use you. If so, then stop comparing yourself to what others have to offer. God doesn’t look for the big givers. He isn’t interested in the best talent or the biggest wallet. He isn’t looking for the pastor with the best catchy phrases and a big following. He isn’t looking for the woman who writes the best selling Bible studies. Certainly God uses these people and they do a great work for God. But more than anything, God desires the person who is sold out to Him. He best uses the person who sacrificially surrenders their all to Him. Certainly “giving all” can be big gifts, but sometimes it’s just two small mites.

I’m sure she had no idea that her sacrificial gift would be recorded in two gospels that April 27 cttbecame part of our Bible and that God would use it to teach us that 1) God sees what others overlook, 2) God evaluates things differently than man, and 3) that when we give what we have in faith God will use it for His glory.

This week’s memory verse:

Psalm 95:6

Come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker..

By Catherine Bird / Leafwood Publishing

In Building Circles of Grace, moms and daughters will explore what it means to build and sustain Christ-centered relationships that we develop beyond our relationship with God. Some of the toughest experiences we encounter as young girls (and moms, too) are a result of the people we choose as friends.

How do you respond with grace to a bully? How do you cope with the loss of a friendship? Can you really make a difference by putting Jesus first when it is not the cool thing to do? Building Circles of Grace invites moms and daughters to discuss all of these questions and more.

Memory Verse: 1 John 4:7-8

memory verse logoEach week we post a scripture to challenge you to hide God’s Word in your heart. Commit it to memory, meditate on it and apply it to your life.

This week’s memory verse:

1 John 4:7-8

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Meditate and apply:

  1. Because God is love and love is of God, as His children we should have love for each other. If God were to rate you on your love for others on a scale of 1-10, how would He score you? If God were to rate you on your love for yourself on a scale of 1-10 how would He score you. Which has the higher score? What would be different if your score for loving others was higher than your score for loving yourself.
  2. Peter says that the one who loves is born of God and knows God but if do not love, we are not of God. You’ve heard the saying “apples don’t fall far from the tree” meaning that children have similar behaviors, beliefs, and attitudes as their parents. Children learn more through their observations than words of instruction. We, as God’s children, observe our Heavenly Father and our actions, behaviors, and words should mirror Him. Since God is love, this is a behavior that we should mirror as we observe how He loves. How does God love? Read these other verses about God’s love:
    • Love starts with God – “We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)
    • God’s love is sacrificial – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16.)  and “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
    • God’s love is great and lavished upon us – “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” (1 John 3:1)
    • God’s love is life – “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (1 John 4:16)
    • God’s love drives out fear, anxiety, and worry – “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18) and “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).
    • God’s love is everlasting – “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
    • God’s love is compassionate, gracious, and faithful – “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 86:15)
    • God’s love delights in you and He rejoices over you with singing: “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
    • God’s love is rich in mercy– “ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. (Ephesians 2:4-5)
    • God’s love is unconditional – “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39) and “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
    • God’s love is forgiving – “The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty.” (Numbers 4:18)
  3.  We should love others out of a love that originates with God. Because it begins in Him, the way we love others should be the same way that God loves us: sacrificially; great and lavish; gives life by telling others about Him and leading them to Christ; drives out fear, anxiety, and worry by leading people to the promises of God; everlasting because we choose to love, even if they don’t love us; compassionate, gracious, and faithful; delights in other and rejoices over them; merciful;  unconditional; and forgiving. Which of these are evident in how you love others? Which are not? Ask God to show you His love in the ways you are not loving others and to teach you to love as He loves you.

Cover_mBOOKING NOW! Be a host site for the NEW God, Love & Marshmallow Wars Book Tour & Couples Conference:

This event helps couples understand why the daily activities found in the book will equip them to build a stronger marriage and the book provides them with 365 intentional activities to take what they learn at the event and apply it on a daily basis. Through the event, couples will discover the Biblical “why” behind the categories of activities found in the book and the “how” these activities are important to building a stronger marriage. Focus points of the event includes :

  • How memorizing scripture together and studying God’s Word together as they study, meditate and apply scriptures related to marriage and life issues will help them develop marriages that honor God.
  • Why utilizing fun conversation starters that spark meaningful conversations will keep interest alive as they continually learn new things about each other.
  • Why keeping romance alive is essential to intimacy and connectivity.
  • How making memories and working together builds relationship investment bonds and how these investment bonds can become the knots that keeps them together through the tough times.
  • How they can understand what they are or are not contributing to the marriage as well as how they might be contributing to problems or potential problems within the relationship through the use of targeted, intentional personal reflections
  • Why it is important that couples never stop dating and how group dates with Christian friends can be both an encouragement and accountability to their own relationship.

During the event, couples will be given an activity from each focus point to do together, making this event an interactive, fun, and engaging event with practical, hands-on learning. Unlike other couple events that are over when the event ends, couples who attend the GLMW event will be able to apply what they learn when utilizing the book on a daily basis for a year. Since the book is not dated, couples are able to reuse the activities year after year to continue being intentional in strengthening their relationship with each other and with God as they strive to live out God’s design for marriage every day.

Learn more about hosting this event at your church or conference site by clicking here.

About the book: The GLMW book contains 365 daily challenges for couples to strengthen their relationships to each other and with God. Couples will complete activities such as Scripture memory, conversation starters, relationship builders, learning about Biblical marriage, romance builders, personal reflections, and date ideas. Matthew 26:56. Deserting Jesus

Feb 12 Matthew 26 56 kjv

On the night that Jesus was arrested and began hours of untold and unjust torture, His closest earthly companions became sacred and fled – they deserted Him. In His greatest hour of need, they fled the scene – leaving Him to go through a trail of made up, false allegations, a flogging that should have killed Him, nailed to a cross and to die – alone.

How often do we do the same when life gets tough. Maybe we blame God for what’s happened or we wonder why He isn’t doing something about the trouble we are facing. Maybe its being bitter over the death of a loved one. Whatever it might look like, we desert Him – just as the disciples did.

Even though, they fled, Jesus stayed true to His mission. Out of His love for them and us, He endured the cross and died in our place – taking the punishment we deserve on Himself so that we could find forgiveness of sin and have a relationship with God. In John 15:13, Jesus said that there is no greater love than a man lay down his life for his friend. He lived out those words as he hung on a cross.

No matter how many times we might turn our backs on God, God will never turn His back on us. He’s always there – ready to love us, ready to forgive, ready to bring us back into a right relationship with Him. With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, be sure that you take time to acknowledge Jesus’ love for us – an unfailing love that has no ends, an unconditional love that accepts us just as we are. If you are in a season of life where you have turned your back on God, take a few moments to remember the sacrificial love of Jesus as He hung on the cross for you.
