A Tangible Experience of God’s Presence

Experiencing God’s presence in worship

We’ve all had experiences where we’ve left church on Sunday or a worship retreat or Bible study of some kind and felt God’s presence as we worshiped Him. It’s a wonderful experience and we don’t want that feeling to end. But yet, how long does it take until we fall into sin or go back to living like before? Usually not too long. If the presence of God was visibly and tangibly around you all day, every day, do you think you’d fall into the same trap of sin? Before you’re too quick to answer, let’s look at the cloud of the Lord and Israel.

The Pillars of Cloud and Fire

The Bible tells us that throughout all of Israel’s journeys, God’s presence was with them – in a tangible way. They could see His glory in the cloud that filled the tabernacle by day and fire was on it by night. From the moment they left Egypt all the way through the books of the prophets who foretold of another exodus out of Babylonian captivity, the Cloud of the Lord held both theological meaning and function.

The Cloud of the Lord represented God’s presence in the following ways:

  • guidance and leading Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness into the promised land (Exodus 13:21; Numbers 14:14, Nehmiah 9:12; Paslm 78:14)
  • a sign that the nations was to break camp and continue their journey or to stop and set up camp (Exodus 40:36-37; Number 9:17-23)
  • protection from Pharaoh and his army (Exodus 14:19-20)
  • the personal presence of God/the angel of the Lord was among them (Exodus 13:22; Exodus 14:19, Exodus 14:24, Exodus 40:38, Numbers 9:15-16)
  • it summoned them to battle (Numbers 10:34-35)
  • it summoned them to worship (Exodus 33:10)
  • the cloud both concealed God glory and was a manifestation of it (Exodus 16:10, Exodus 19:9, Exodus 19:16; Exodus 20:21, Exodus 24:15-18, Exodus 34:5, Deuteronomy 4:11, Deuteronomy 5:22)
  • provided revelation (Exodus 33:9, Psalm 99:7)
  • a dwelling place of God (Numbers 9:18, Numbers 9:22, Numbers 10:11)
  • God dwelt over the mercy seat (Leviticus 16:2
  • a visible manifestation of God for installing the 70 elders and Joshua into service (Num 11:25, Deuteronomy 31:15)
  • inaugurated the tabernacle (Exodus 40:34-35)
  • provided shade from the sun and protection from storm (Number 10:34; Psalm 105:39, Isa 4:5)
  • at night it became a pillar of fire to give them light (Exodus 14:20

Choosing Idols Over God’s Presence

Wherever they went, the cloud of the Lord led them. And still the nation ended up turning to idols and breaking their covenant with God. As they left Egypt and met God at the mountain, they stood as a nation and said they would do what God wanted them to do – they would obey his commands. They said that God would be their God and they would be His people. But when Moses goes to the top of the mountain for 40 days they get Aaron to make a ‘god’ for them to worship. Throughout the Old Testament they struggled with idol worship.

Fill Us with Your Glory

As believers, God dwells within us. We are His temple. If each of us walked around with the cloud of the Lord and fire by night as a meter for how much our lives reflected God’s glory, would there be a big cloud or a tiny one? Would the fire by night be burning bright or just a little flicker.

Father, fill us with your glory and may it shine bright in a lost world that desperately needs you.

What Does the Coming of the Son of Man Mean for You?

Whenever things in life get difficult, we typically want to avoid it. I have seen people spend more time and energy trying to avoid doing work than doing the work itself. For some, they waste time preparing for the task just to avoid doing the task. We certainly need to prepare and make sure we have all the resources at hand that the task will demand. We need to gather information and knowledge so that we can do that task well. But sometimes we can be guilty of prepping so that we do not have to feel guilty of not doing. We can also be guilty of avoiding news we do not really want to hear. For Christians, the coming of the Son of Man is great news, but for those lost without Christ, judgement awaits. What does the coming of the Son of Man mean for you?

Is the coming of the Son of Man the End of Time?

Most of us, at some level, understand an “end time” time is coming. Even non-Christians will speak of the end of the world. Hollywood has made a fortune off movies about the end of the world – everything from alien invasions to apocalyptic disease to nuclear bombs destroying the planet. We flock to such movies and enjoy them without ever considering the reality that the world as we know it will – at some point – come to an end. It’s the kind of news we want to avoid – but what God has ordained to come is going to happen. But Jesus gives us information so we can prepare and be ready. Through visions to prophets, John, and His own words, he prepares us for what is to come.

Is COVID19 a precursor to the coming of the Son of Man?

With COVID19, there have been those asking and wondering, “Is this the end times? Is this where 1/3 of the earth’s population will be killed?” Now that the vaccines are out, there are those trying to say that if you get the vaccine, it’s the “mark of the beast” Well, we are not going to debate if COVID is the end times because honestly, Jesus told us that even He does not know the appointed time. Only God knows. So, whenever you hear or see people saying that Jesus is returning on a certain date or that the end of the world is on a certain date – beware of the trap. Only God has that information (Mark 13:32)

Is the vaccine the “mark of the beast”? Revelation 13:16-18 says, “Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.”

Notice the mark of beast will be given on the right hand or forehead — not the upper arm where the vaccines are given. Additionally, the mark of the beast is a number – 666. There is no number written on you when you get the vaccine. So you can be sure the vaccine is not the mark of the beast.

Signs of the Coming of the Son of Man

Yet, Jesus did give us some sings as we prepare for His return and he told us to watch for these signs. He didn’t issue forth a challenge and say, “I bet you can’t guess when I will return again.” He simply said “watch.” And the purpose for watching is so that we can know the time is near and be spiritually prepared for His coming. If we are spiritually prepared (meaning we have placed our faith and trust in Him as our Lord and Savior), then his coming is something we can look forward to with excitement and anticipation. But if we have not, then His coming again is something to dread and fear.

In Luke 21:7-29, He says there will be wars, earthquakes, famines, and persecution. In verses 20-24, He talks about the destruction of Jerusalem. And then in verses 25-28, He talks about the end of the age with the sun, moon, and stars doing abnormal things. He says the “celestial powers will be shaken.” Since the moon controls our tides, if the moon does an abnormal thing, it could trigger hurricanes or tsunamis. In verse 28, Jesus talks about a roaring and tossing sea and of people filled with anguish. He says, “People will faint from fear and expectation of the things that are coming on the world.” And then the final sign, is the coming of the “Son of Man.” Long before Jesus came, God gave a vision to Daniel about this event.

Daniel’s vision of the coming of the Son of Man

In Daniel 7:13-14, we read: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”

What a description of Jesus! Jesus himself reiterates the Daniel passage in Luke 21:27-28. He says he will return in a cloud with great power and glory in such a way that the entire world will know the time has come. No one will sit around saying, “Is this it?” Everyone will know. And for every single person the meaning will be one of two possibilities: either it will be judgement day or redemption day. Those who are lost will face judgement day. But for the Christian, Jesus says: Look up! For your redemption has come.

What does the coming of the Son of Man mean for you? Judgement or Redemption?

Why is daily Bible reading important?

Bible Reading is vitally important to growing spiritually and keeping our spiritual selves full. God wants us to hide His Word in our hearts, meditate on it and apply it to our lives. When we have a plan, we are more likely to follow through. Here are eight reasons you should have a daily Bible Reading plan:

  • We can find His will for our lives
  • Bible reading is our spiritual nourishment
  • It helps us be able to discern the thoughts and intents of our heart.
  • The Bible instructs us in righteousness
  • It gives us power to overcome trials, heartaches, and sin
  • God gives us many promises, but you won’t know them unless you read about them, memorize them, and know if it’s a promise intended for us today
  • God reveals Himself to us and we learn about Him which strengthens our relationship with Him
  • He also speaks to us through His Word.

Don’t miss what God has to say to you today.
It’s time to practice spiritual self-care and read your Bible!

Practice Spiritual Self care and dig into God’s Word today to be revived and renewed!

We’ve also put this design on a poster, coffee mug, a stainless steel water bottle, phone cases, and a few other products.

Fight on my Knees

We all fight battles–relationship, financial, cancer, COVID, professional, educational and more. But no matter what the battle, it belongs to God. So, fight on your knees with your hands lifted high. (Based on the song, Battle Belongs, by Phil Wickham.)

New in the Teespring Store: The Prayer of Blessing

We’ve added a new canvas print to the Teespring Store.

God instructed the Israelite priests to pray the prayer of blessing every day over the people. The prayer is found in Numbers 6:24-26. Hang the canvass in your home or carry the mug, tote bag, or water bottle and let the prayer of blessing impact all those who you meet throughout the day.

We’ve also put this design on a poster, coffee mug, a stainless steel water bottle, phone cases, and a few other products.
