Each week we will post a scripture to challenge you to hide God’s Word in your heart. Commit it to memory, meditate on it and apply it to your life.

1 Samuel 2:2

There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

 Meditate and apply:

1. Take some moments to acknowledge to God His holiness.
2. Make a list of the unique attributes of God. How do you see these attributes at work in your life?
3. What storms are brewing in your life right now? Without a compass to steer us through the storm, we tend to begin to drift and lose our way. We take our eyes of God. We forget that He is in control. Our values and goals begin to seem impossible. As the waves of the storm beat against you, they lead you wherever they might take you and we feel as if we are beginning to sink. As a result we start tossing things overboard to lighten the load, trying to stay afloat. As first, it’s the non-essentials. But the waves keep coming and we take on more water. We throw more stuff overboard – this time the essentials that we need for life. Still the waves keep coming and we take on more water, until all that’s left is to jump overboard, cling to debris in the water without much hope of survival. The last thing we throw away in a crisis is hope.
4. When we say God is our “rock,” we are identifying Him as our immovable support and defense. It’s on this solid rock that we stand through every trial and storm in life, anchored to Him. If you are facing a storm right now, go back to God’s plan. Remember that His plans are for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). God can inject hope into any hopeless situation. So instead of leaving the ship, throw out your anchor and be steadfast, immovable. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, ” Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
5. When Paul found himself in a storm in Acts 27, the sailors all had typical reactions to when faced with a crisis. But in Paul, we see a calm confidence and courage. Our character is not revealed when life is great. Character is not made in the crisis – it is revealed in the crisis. The real us comes out when things seem to fall apart and we are battered by the storms of life. If we are anchored to the Rock of Christ, than we can just be still in the storm, putting our faith in the immovable God. (Psalm 125:1)
   In the storms of life, we need stability – the stability of being anchored to the  steadfast, immovable Rock of our Salvation. (click to tweet) 
6. We can learn three things from Paul’s character in the storm to help us weather our own storms:

First, we anchor to the Rock of God by staying in His presence. Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that God will never leave us or forsake us – even if we don’t “feel” Him, He is there. Always watching over us – always in control of every storm. You’re never going through the storm alone.

Second, we anchor to the Rock of God by knowing that God has a purpose for every life and every trial – and that incudes your life. Storms can strengthen our faith, teach us something we need to know for the next part of the journey, or simple teach us to lean on the everlasting arms of God. God’s plan for you doesn’t change course. Don’t focus on the storm – focus on the One who is control of the storm.

Third, we anchor to the Rock of God by remembering His promises. When you are going through a storm, go back to the scriptures that are God’s promises to you. Write them out and place them in prominent areas to see often. Memorize them. When the waves of the storm seem overwhelming, cling to the promises of God. Speak them out loud. Pray them back to God.

You might lose the cargo, the ship might break apart – you might even spend some time in the water – but you’ll make it through the storm because God is always near, He has a purpose for you, and He always keeps His promises. (click to tweet)
