Why are there so many names for God? Why is it important that we know what they are and what they mean? Our finite, human brains cannot fully comprehend the majesty and glory of who God is. Yet through the various names of God, He chooses to reveal Himself to us so we can come to understand the many personal characteristics of God. His names reveal His power, authority, and holiness. The better we understand and know the names of God the more personal He becomes to us and as we pray, we can call on His name that corresponds with our need. Finally, because the Bible instructs us to honor, fear, and respect God and to not use His name in vain, we need to know exactly what His names are and what they mean. Today, we look at the name Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh.

Today’s Name: Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh

Today’s Prayer:

Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh, you are all-sufficient.You hold the universe in your hands. In John 5:26 we learn that the Father has life in Himself. However, we do not have life except when you knit us together in our mother’s womb and breathe life into us. You need nothing to exist. You do not need food, water or air. Nor do you need clothing or a home. You do not need friends, but you call us who trust in you your friend. Scientific laws are not needed to sustain your life. You exist outside of time. You don’t need light because you are light. And you do not need us, yet you chose to love us and work through us.

Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh, you are also all I need. You are all sufficient to meet my every need, see me through every trial, provide for my eternal salvation. Thank you for being all I need.

Father, show us who You are as we discover and learn about your many names. Reveal to us why You are worthy of being called the One True, Living God. May we learn about your characteristics, nature, and your great love for us. Teach us to unabashedly love you, respect Your name, and serve only You. Make your character known to us so we can live and walk in your image. Amen.

Today’s Prayer:

Jehovah El Emeth, you are absolute truth – the measure by which we can place all things to determine what is true. From you, we can find wisdom and clarity, understanding and application. Sometimes I can be guilty of twisting your truth so that it suits my circumstances or I have allowed Satan to feed me lies and I fell for them. Jehovah El Emeth, help me to recognize your truth and to live according to your truth. Give me your wisdom to walk through adversity and trials when they come in a way that honors you. Thank you for your perfect and pure truth that guides me. Help hide your truth in my heart and to apply it to my life.
