Why do we not see revival? It has nothing to do with liberalism or conservatism. Nor does revival occur because of who is in the white house, congress, or senate. The style of worship service in our churches doesn’t bring revival. If your church sings the old hymns or contemporary doesn’t make revival happen. It has nothing to do with whether the pastor wears a suit and tie or jeans and t-shirt. None of these things bring revival.
WHY? Because revival begins in the individual hearts of God’s people.
We don’t see revival because the Church (God’s people) are not functioning in the way God intended. Revival doesn’t occur because, like Israel and Judah, we have made idols in our lives and God is not first place in our lives.
America doesn’t see revival because…
…we do not humble ourselves
We don’t see revival because God’s people refuse to humble themselves. As a nation, we are prideful and selfish, seeking our own way rather than God’s. Instead of loving our neighbor as ourselves, we choose to love ourselves and could care less about our neighbor.
…we do not pray
We neither pray as we should nor do we believe in the power of prayer. Some simply don’t take the time to pray – unless they’re in an emergency. Others pray, but don’t actually believe God will answer.
…we do not seek God
God’s people are not seeking God’s face – they’re far too happy with the status quo. Instead of seeking God, we prefer to go to friends, family, counselors, pastors or anyone else with our problems without seeking God’s answers in scripture and through prayer.
…we refuse to repent
And revival doesn’t happen because we refuse to repent. We see ourselves as self-dependent and don’t need God. We’ve allowed ourselves to believe that God’s commandments were meant for Old Testament days and don’t apply today. We make excuses and change our laws so we can live the way we want. But changing our laws does not negate God’s laws and He will still judge us according to His laws – not ours.
We don’t see revival because God’s people refuse to repent.
