Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

In Habakkuk 3 we find Habakkuk’s prayer asking God to show His power and mercy that He had so often shown in the past. He was appalled by the wickedness of his people and longed for the day when God would bring justice to his nation by punishing sin. However, he was even more troubled when God revealed to him that He would indeed judge Judah by sending the Babylonians (who were even more wicked) to carry out His justice on Judah. This short book of the Bible records Habakkuk’s conversation with God. It ends with Habakkuk being convinced of God’s sovereignty. So Habakkuk waits for and trusts God as God carries out His justice and accomplishes his purposes.

Would Habakkuk look at America and be appalled by its wickedness?

Israel and Judah’s greatest sin was breaking the covenant they made with God and chose to turn their back on Him and worship idols. They wanted to be like all the people around them. But God called them to be “set apart,” different from the rest of the world. They were to be the people who showed the rest of the world who God is.

America, as a nation, has turned its back on God. It is on the path of stamping God out of every single part of this nation and each time God is removed from some part of America, the devil moves in and takes over. We look less and less like a nation blessed by God and more and more like the nations of Israel and Judah who chose to be like the rest of the world.

The Need for Revival

  1. Unlike Habakkuk, many of us are not appalled by the sin that grips our nation and holds it in its power. In fact, we are more likely to either ignore it or join in.
  2. Through the Bible, and probably even in our own lives, we’ve heard and seen the power of God. But we don’t really fear God in any way. Israel falsely and arrogantly believed that just because the temple was there, God would never destroy them – so they didn’t listen to the prophets God sent to warn them. Because of God’s blessings on American in the past, we too, as a nation believe that we are invincible. But when we look at the division in this nation, we can see the cracks that are splitting wider and wider. Without a revival, how long do we have before we reach the point of God saying “Enough!” and judgement comes? Could COVID be the beginning of His judgement?
  3. Habakkuk was wise enough to also pray that when God did judge that He would also remember mercy. It’s time we seek God’s mercy.

Praying for Revival

Father, give us eyes and hearts that see sin the way you do. Lord, may we be appalled by the sin in this nation and how it grips us and holds us in its power. God, we’ve seen your power demonstrated time and time again throughout the Bible in the pages of history when nations turn against you. Lord, we pray that your people will be stirred to repent, seek your face, and turn from their wicked ways. We ask that you hear us from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land. And Lord, we ask that you remember mercy and end this pandemic. Not to make our lives better or easier, but so that you can receive honor and glory and cause the world to know that you are God.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Revive Us Again, Lord

Our nation and our world need to experience a revival. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their land.” Revival begins with the people of God. We invite you to join us in praying for revival for America and our world.
