The Book of Hosea isn’t totally what one expects as a book in the Bible. It has three stories in one: 1) The story of a prophet who is instructed by God to marry a prostitute. 2) The story of God’s chosen people, Israel, who “plays the harlot” by worshiping idols and forsaking God. 3) The story of God’s unfailing love who constantly pursues us, offering repentance and redemption. When we look at these interwoven stories, we can find that our world today isn’t in any better shape than Israel was and we should pay attention to what their sin brought upon them as God judged them.
