Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

When revival doesn’t happen

It would seem that the people didn’t learn anything from the flood. In Genesis 18 and 19 we find that the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were so corrupt that God said their “sin is very grave.” The biggest clue that we have as to why their sin was so grave is found when two angels come to Sodom in the evening to see if the sin was as great as the outcry that had reached the throne of God.

When they arrived at the city, Lot saw them and invited them into his home, knowing how bad the sin was in the city. It wasn’t long before the men of the city were banging on Lot’s door demanding that he send the two angels who appeared as men out so they could gang rape them. So obviously homosexuality was a sin of Sodom and it is where we get our word “sodomy”.

Was homosexuality the only sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?

However, homosexuality wasn’t the only sin of these two cities. Ezekiel 16:49-50 says, “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me…”

The Hebrew word translated “detestable” refers to something that is morally disgusting and is the exact same word used in Leviticus 18:22 that refers to homosexuality as an “abomination.” Additionally, Jude 7 says, “…Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion.”

So, while homosexuality was not the only sin in which the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah indulged, it does appear to be the primary reason for the destruction of the cities.

The Need for Revival

  1. If God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah primarily because of homosexuality, could our nation be in danger of the same?
  2. The act of homosexuality is an abomination to God. However the people who live a homosexual life are creations of God and He loves them. Yet the Bible is very clear that God despises the sin of homosexuality. Because we know He sees homosexuality as an abomination, we can also know that God would never create a person to be “born” homosexual. The homosexual lifestyle is a choice that people make.
  3. The Bible says that “whosoever” can come to Christ and have eternal life (John 3:16, Revelation 22:17). There is no sin too big that God cannot redeem and save.

Praying for Revival

Father, homosexuality is rampant in our world and in our nation. If the people of Sodom and Gomorrah could see our world today, they would wonder why we are not judged today as you judged them. But yet there are still righteous people in our nation. It’s time we stop being “culturally sensitive” and start calling sin by it name. But at the same time, we need to show those who are caught in the grips of homosexual sin the same love that Jesus would show them. Just as Jesus died for me and my sin, so He died for their sin.

God, we ask you to reveal the lies of Satan to those trapped in homosexual sin and help them discover the unconditional, everlasting love of Jesus. May we not sit in judgement, but extend the invitation to come to Christ. May we not look the other way as we sit within the walls of our church, but go out into the highways and byways and bring them to Christ.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Is Revival too hard for God?

Let’s face it! Our world is at least (if not more) corrupt than Sodom and Gomorrah. Probably more corrupt than the time of the flood. But that doesn’t meant that revival in 2021 is too hard for God.

God promised Abraham a son and through that son, Abraham would become a father of many nations and all the world would be blessed. The only problem was both Abraham and Sarah were old. Too old for having children. She was way past menopause. In fact, Sarah said, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” She was 90 years old and Abraham was 100. So Sarah laughed at the news that she would become a mother. The Lord’s response was, “Why did Sarah laugh…Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Luke 1:37 says, “Nothing will be impossible with God.”

Search your heart. Do you feel the world is way past the point of experiencing a revival? Do you feel that it is pointless to pray for God to send a revival? If so, remember that nothing is too hard for God.

The Need for Revival

  1. Do you think its too late for our nation to experience revival?
  2. Do you truly believe that nothing is impossible for God?
  3. If you find yourself doubting that revival is possible, ask God to forgiving you for limiting what He can do and ask Him to revive your own heart. Then let it spread to those around you.

Praying for Revival

Father, how we tend to limit you because we cannot fully comprehend your power, holiness, righteousness, and love. We acknowledge now in this moment that it is never too late for people to turn their hearts to you while they are living. It is only too late after we leave this earth and enter eternity. God, we acknowledge the enormity of sin in our nation and in our world but we ask that you send a revival and turn the hearts of our people back to you.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Revival is needed because of the intention of man’s heart

Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” It’s just the nature of mankind. It’s nothing that has to be learned or taught. We’re born that way. We need to have eyes that see ourselves the way that God sees us. Instead, we tend to rationalize our behaviors. We look around at others who sin “more” or “bigger” than we do and pat ourselves on the back because “I’m not that bad.”

But when we stop looking at everyone else and look at our own faults, asking the Holy Spirit to show us just how sinful we are, then we begin to see that “we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.” (Isaiah 64:6) We have to come face to face with the words of Paul in Romans 3:10 that says, “none is righteous, no, not one” and in Romans 3:23 that says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

The Need for Revival

  1. Do you compare yourself to others in the world and convince yourself you’re not that bad? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you your own sins.
  2. Ask God to break your heart for the sins you commit that break His heart. Then ask Him to forgive you and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Praying for Revival

Father, every day we are guilty of sin. Help us to stop looking at those around us and to become concerned and burdened for the sin in our own life. Give us the courage to allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and know our thoughts to see if there is any wicked ways in us. (Psalm 139:23) Father, we confess these sins you’ve revealed to us and ask you to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Praying for Revival

A daily verse about the state of our nation and time for Christians reflect and unite in prayer, asking God to send a revival across our land and turn our nation back to Him.

Do we need a revival?

Revival is needed when there is No Remorse

If anyone needed to experience revival, Cain did. After Cain killed his brother and became guilty of the world’s first murder, God asked Cain where Abel was. Cain had the audacity to flippantly reply to God, “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?” He denies any knowledge about his brother and shows no sign of remorse. God therefore punishes Cain by alienating him from both the ground (he was a farmer) and God. He becomes a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.

My Punishment is “too much”

Not only does Cain not demonstrate remorse for his actions, but he complains that God’s punishment is “greater than he can bear.” He whines to God that because of God’s punishment that whoever finds him will kill him. So God places a mark on Cain (the Bible doesn’t tell us what the mark is, but it had to be something visible). Additionally God declares that whoever kills Cain, then vengeance would be taken on him sevenfold.

The Result

Not once do we see Cain repenting or seeking God’s mercy and grace. However, God gave it in the sense of providing protection over Cain’s life. Yet still we find one of the saddest verses in the Bible in Genesis 4:16. “Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.” The word, “Nod” means “wandering,” or “exile.” Cain would have rather lived in his sin than to be in the presence of the Lord!

The Need for Revival

  1. Is there true remorse and repentance for sin in our nation?
  2. Would people today rather live in their sin then to be in the presence of God?
  3. How has God extended his grace to our nation over the years? Do you believe that God is getting tired of giving grace to a nation prefers living in sin to dwelling in His presence?

Praying for Revival

Father, we only have to listen to the news or read the newspapers to see how rampant sin is. We can see how political parties and our government continue to lead our nation on a path away from you. We ask that Christian in our nation will become burdened for the sin that runs rampant without a heart of remorse. Forgive us our sins. Cause us to seek your face with all our heart, mind, and soul. May we humbly bow before you, pray, and turn from our wicked ways with hearts that are broken and contrite. Give us boldness to stand up and follow your commandments. May we once again become a nation that honors you.

Lord, send a revival and let it begin in me.

Numbers 32:23. When no one sees your sin

March 04 Numbers 32 23 KJV

One day a school principal received a phone call. The voice said, “Thomas won’t be in school today.” The principal was a bit suspicious of the voice. He asked, “Who is speaking?” The voice came back,  “My father.”

Sir Walter Scott penned the lines in his poem entitled Marmion, “Oh! What A Tangled Web We Weave When First We Practice To Deceive.”

Sin often becomes a web that we get caught in. Each sin lays down another sticky string of web until the web becomes so tangled we become entrapped in the web that we created. Then we are left with the guilt that sticks and clings to us and weighs us down until we experience depression or feel like failures. Whether the sin is a lie or any other sin, we can be sure we will be found out…one way or another. Even if we were to get away with it here on earth, God is an omnipotent God. He sees everything and He knows everything – even the thoughts that are never expressed through word or action.

An Eastern proverb says: “Curses, like chickens, always come home to roost.” Sin also will “come home to roost.” It might mean that we got caught in the sin. Or maybe we didn’t get caught, but we still live with guilt, regret, and the consequences of our actions. It might mean that relationships are hurt or destroyed. It might mean getting fired from a job. It might mean the end of a marriage. Even if the sin brought no consequences now, God always knows. Psalm 139:7 says, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” The answer is – nowhere.

Consider the following examples from the Bible:

  • Adam and Eve tried to hide from God when they committed the first sin. God asked Eve, “What have you done?”
  • When Cain killed his brother, God asks, “Where is your brother?” Cain denies any knowledge of his whereabouts. God’s reply: “What have you done?”
  • Moses killed an Egyptian who was mistreating a Hebrew slave. He thought now one saw him. The Bible tells us that Moses looked around before killing the Egyptian. Then he buried the body in the sand. But then the next day, he attempts to break up and argument between two of the Hebrews and they said “Will you now kill us like the Egyptian?” Moses learned the hard way that our sins will find us out. Moses’ sin sent him fleeing from Pharaoh to another country.

Over and over again throughout the Bible we can find where someone thought they had gotten away with sin, only to realize that they could not hide it from God. In Joshua 7, Achan took “accursed” things from among the spoils of battle that God had given instructions not to take. He didn’t even get to enjoy those things because he had to bury it so no one knew. But God knew and the result was the nation losing the next battle.

David thought his sin of sleeping with Bathsheba was not known, but his sin results in the conception of a child. Now he has to cover that up so he brings Bathsheba’s husband home from the battle (where David should have been!) so that everyone will think the baby is her husband’s child instead of his. However, the husband is too noble for this plan to work and so David then sends him to the front lines knowing it will result in the husband’s death. Bathsheba then becomes part of David Harem. But God knew exactly all the sins that was tangled up in this web and the son conceived in sin became ill and died.

In Acts 5, people were selling their possessions and giving to those who had need. Ananias and Sapphira sold some land and told the apostles they had sold for a certain amount but in fact they had sold it for more and kept the rest for themselves. Their sin was not keeping some of the profit from the sell, but that they were deceitful in telling the apostles they sold it for less than they had. Peter asks Ananias, “Why have you lied, not to men – but to God?”

Joseph’s brothers were filled with jealousy – so much so that they sold Joseph off to slave traders. They then had to cover up that sin with another and they took his coat of many colors and dipped it in the blood of an animal, ripped it up and brought it to their father who assumed Joseph had been killed by a wild animal. But seventeen years later when a famine is in the land, the brothers go to Egypt to buy grain only to learn that the second in command of all of Egypt was the brother they had sold into slavery.

In Psalm 90:8, the psalmist wrote, “You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.” No matter how much we think we get away with something, God always knows. If it is not revealed in this life, you can bet it will be revealed when you stand before the judgement seat of Christ. Hebrews 4:13 tells us, “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” Psalm 44:21 tells us that God knows the secrets of the heart. Luke 12:2-3 tells us that nothing is covered up but all things are revealed, nothing is hid that shall not be made known, that what is spoken in darkness will be heard in the light and proclaimed upon the housetops.
Every word and action of our lives are stored in God’s books and we will have to answer for each and every word and deed. However, through Christ’s shed blood on the cross and his resurrection, we can accept Him by faith as our Savior and receive forgiveness of sin so that the ledge books in heaven are wiped clean! The Bible tells us that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So you can be sure that no matter the sin, our sins will indeed find us out. I would rather have my sins forgiven and washed away then to have to explain them to God.

God, forgive us of our sins and help us live in obedience to your Word.

Focus points of the event includes :

  • How memorizing scripture together and studying God’s Word together as they study, meditate and apply scriptures related to marriage and life issues will help them develop marriages that honor God.
  • Why utilizing fun conversation starters that spark meaningful conversations will keep interest alive as they continually learn new things about each other.
  • Why keeping romance alive is essential to intimacy and connectivity.
  • How making memories and working together builds relationship investment bonds and how these investment bonds can become the knots that keeps them together through the tough times.
  • How they can understand what they are or are not contributing to the marriage as well as how they might be contributing to problems or potential problems within the relationship through the use of targeted, intentional personal reflections
  • Why it is important that couples never stop dating and how group dates with Christian friends can be both an encouragement and accountability to their own relationship.

During the event, couples will be given an activity from each focus point to do together, making this event an interactive, fun, and engaging event with practical, hands-on learning. Unlike other couple events that are over when the event ends, couples who attend the GLMW event will be able to apply what they learn when utilizing the book on a daily basis for a year. With her history and experience growing up in both small and large churches, Julia enjoys bringing top level quality events to churches of all sizes. Her father largely pastored small churches and therefore she understands that these vital parts of the believing community need to be good stewards of the resources God provides them with. This knowledge inspires her passion for being available with a fresh perspective for those who want to provide their congregations with meaningful spiritual growth opportunities, regardless of size.
