As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people spread their clothes along the path and waving palm branches. They cried out, “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord.” But the Pharisees in the crowd approached Jesus and told Him to make the people stop and to rebuke His disciples. They understood that the accolades they offered were from Psalm 118:26 and it was a confession that Jesus was both the Messiah and the rightful King of Israel. Jesus’ response was that even if they ceased their praise, that God would, one way or another, make the glorious truth of Jesus known some other way, even if it took a miracle like making the stones cry out.
What about you? Will you keep the stones silent?
Do you offer praise that is due to God? Do come to Him in quiet awe and reverence and tell His greatness? Or do you proclaim for all the world to hear? Are you keeping the stones silent?
Read these verses about praising God:
Psalm 96:11-12 says: ” Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them, let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.”
Psalm 106:2 says, “Who can declare the Lord’s mighty acts or proclaim all the praise due Him?”
We proclaim how great you are and tell of the wonderful things you have done. (Psalm 75:1)
Praise the Lord, all people on earth, praise his glory and might. (1 Chronicles 16:28)
God is wise and powerful! Praise him forever and ever. (Daniel 2:20)
Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD! He rescues the oppressed from the power of evil people. (Jeremiah 20:13)
Praise him—he is your God, and you have seen with your own eyes the great and astounding things that he has done for you. (Deuteronomy 10:21)
Praise the LORD who has given his people peace, as he promised he would. (1 Kings 8:56)
The LORD is my strong defender; he is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will sing about his greatness. (Exodus 15:2)
I will tell of the LORD’s unfailing love; I praise him for all he has done for us. He has richly blessed the people of Israel because of his mercy and constant love. (Isaiah 63:7)
If we don’t give God praise, nature will and the stones will cry out
God is due all our praise and if we don’t praise Him, then all of nature will tell of His glory, even if the stones have to praise Him. Isaiah 55:12 says, “You will indeed go out with joy and be peacefully guided; the mountains and the hills will break into singing before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” I don’t want stones crying out because I didn’t offer the praise due to God – what about you?
Father, we praise you for you are wonderful, gracious, forgiving, omnipotent, incredible, and your pour out your reckless love for us.
