The Rock Won’t Move!

The Rock won’t move in the Hurricane called Life

I live in Florida. Hurricanes are something we know well. This year, the National Hurricane Center is talking about bumping back the start of hurricane season to mid-May rather than June 1st. So, down here we’re getting ready for the 2021 season. When a hurricane does come, the news reporters do non-stop coverage as the storm approaches, while the storm comes on shore, and then in the aftermath, showing all the damage. Typically, as the storm approaches, they show the ocean waves and winds as they crash and beat against anything close to the ocean, sometimes taking out what isn’t strong enough to stand against the storm. Life can sometimes feel just like a hurricane, but we can know that there is a solid rock that won’t move no matter what we face in life.

The Rock won’t move in the Coronavirus Pandemic

Over the past year, as we have lived through this Coronavirus pandemic, our lives have been turned upside down and it can feel just as turbulent as the force of a hurricane. Probably everyone knows someone who battled the virus. Many lost loved ones through it. We’ve learned to social distance and not go in public without a mask. We went through a toilet paper shortage, antibacterial wipes and cleaner shortage, bottled water shortage, and much more. Now, a year later, vaccines are here but we are still battling this virus. But the virus didn’t just attack our health, it has created financial problems and job loss as businesses were forced to close.

We can run to the rock that won’t move

Coronavirus isn’t the only storm in life, because while we might have had to shelter in place, work from home, social distance, and learned to live life differently — life still went on around us. And life, with or without coronavirus, is full of storms that we weather year after year. There are stormy relationships, financial storms, academic storms, legal storms, spiritual storms, and many more. But as a child of God, we can run to the rock that won’t move and find shelter, peace, strength, and safety.

Jesus is the Rock that won’t move

In the graphic above, the large rock in the water is a great reminder of Christ as our Rock. When storms come and it rages and splashes against the rock, the rock is firm, steady, and the rock still remains when the storm abates. When the storms of our life rage against us, Jesus is a firm and steady rock that holds us firm through the storm. He is the firm and secure foundation on which we stand as He leads us by the hand through every storm we face.  Jesus – who walked on water in the midst of a storm – He is our rock.

Because Jesus is our Rock, we don’t have to fear the storms

Because Jesus is our rock, we don’t have to fear the storms – we know that Jesus is in control of every storm. We don’t have to operate out of panic mode. Instead, we can take each day as it comes, surrender the day to God, and live for His glory. God never promised the storms wouldn’t come, but He did promise to be there with us through the storm. As we lean into Him when the waves and storms toss us about, we can seek His face, pray, and ask Him to give us strength, peace, and carry us through the storm. We can also pray that God uses the storms of our lives which Satan means for our harm and turn it into something for our good that will bring Him glory and lead others to the Rock in which we hide.

The Rock Won’t Move by Vertical Worship

Below, you’ll find one of my favorite songs by Vertical Worship, The Rock Won’t Move. Here are the lyrics and a link to YouTube where you can be reminded that God is the Rock in our lives that won’t move no matter what storms come in your life.

When the ground beneath my feet gives way
And I hear the sound of crashing waves
All my world is washing out to sea
I’m hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of the truth
That You are holding tighter still to me

My hope is in the promise of Your blood
My support within the raging flood
Even in the tempest, I can sing
I’m hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of Your truth
That You are holding tighter still to me

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
The Rock won’t move, the Rock won’t move.
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace.
The Rock won’t move, the Rock won’t move

Father, thank you for being our sure foundation. A God of truth, perfect in all Your ways, a God of justice, mercy, and righteousness. Thank you for always being with us in every storm, leading and guiding us to make us more like you as we learn to trust you and grow in faith. Thank you for being a rock that won’t move.

New in the Teespring Store: The Prayer of Blessing

We’ve added a new canvas print to the Teespring Store.

God instructed the Israelite priests to pray the prayer of blessing every day over the people. The prayer is found in Numbers 6:24-26. Hang the canvass in your home or carry the mug, tote bag, or water bottle and let the prayer of blessing impact all those who you meet throughout the day.

We’ve also put this design on a poster, coffee mug, a stainless steel water bottle, phone cases, and a few other products.
