Matthew 4:18-20

Matthew 4 18-20

In Matthew 4:13, we find that Jesus left Nazareth and began living in Capernaum, a small town, and began preaching about the coming of the kingdom of heaven. Peter and Andrew had probably already heard of Jesus when He stopped along the Sea of Galilee and invited them to follow Him. His invite would change their vocation from fishers of fish to fishers of people.  When Jesus issued the invite, they didn’t finish the fishing task for the day first. They didn’t sell what they had caught first.  There was no hesitation or delay. They didn’t go home and discuss it with family and friends to see if this was a good vocation change for them. They went “straightway.” In other words, they immediately left the boat and followed Jesus.

What is it that Jesus is inviting you to join Him in doing today? Often His invited require a step of faith. They don’t always make sense to others and can be scary in the sense that His invites don’t always seem the logical thing to do. But if Jesus stood on the shoreline today and called you’re name and invited you to join Him in the work He is doing, would you go “straightway” and follow Him without delay?
