Galatians 5:13

Galatians 5 13

Serving someone else requires that we let go of selfishness and we must get rid of our own personal agenda. At times, it requires sacrificing our own desires. However, there is always joy found in serving others. The freedom Paul writes about in this verse is the freedom we have through our salvation. It is freedom from the cost of sin. Freedom to live in the love of Christ, knowing we have been forgiven. However, that freedom came at the price of Christ’s sacrificial death. There is no higher way to serve another person than that. When we, then, serve others, we are loving like Christ. We are being an example of Christ and allowing Christ to extend His love through us to others. However, when we indulge in things that make us happy without regards to anyone else, we selfishly serve ourselves and it prohibits us from having a servant’s heart towards others. When we serve others, Paul teaches that we should “serve humbly in love.” One of the most often referred to scriptures when talking about serving is Jesus washing the disciples feet. When you look at Bible day culture, this was one of the most humbling tasks and usually done by the lowest of servants. With only dirt roads and sandals for shoes, people feet would constantly need washing. Sometimes, when we serve others, it might be that we need to humble ourselves and do a demeaning, dirty task. Serving in love, means we serve without griping, grumbling or complaining, and that we do it with a heart full of love for the person we are serving. Look for three opportunities today that you can serve others: do at least one act of service for your spouse or a family member, a coworker, and a complete stranger. If you take a few moments and pray and ask God to show you where you can serve others today, the opportunities will  present themselves. As you serve, also pray for the person you are serving. Make it a daily habit to serve someone humbly in love.

2 Chronicles 16:9

2 Chronicles 16 9 july 2018

Do you ever stop to think what God sees as He looks down on our world…across our lands? On Wednesday, America celebrates the 4th of July…our Independence Day; yet, how must the heart of God break when He looks at this nation. A nation that has been considered one of the greatest and referred to often as a Christian nation…but every day we move further away from God. Could we even call our nation a Christian nation anymore? We’ve removed prayer from schools, the 10 commandments from our courtrooms. We don’t bat an eye at teenage pregnancy. We do nothing to stop abortion. Mass murders are becoming more and more heard on the news. Terrorist attacks. There is no value on human life. We’ve become a self-centered people who doesn’t care about others…turning a blind eye to the homeless, orphans, and hurting. We’re so concerned with not hurting another person’s feelings that we refuse to call sin by its name. We try to change the laws of God so that it suits sinners and so they can live just as they please, but even if we pass laws in our government…the laws of God still stand…and oh how his heart must break. The further we move away from God, the less we can expect to see God’s blessings poured out on our nation. America needs revival. America needs men and women whose hearts completely belong to God. Will you join me this week in praying for God to sweep a revival throughout this nation and our government…and let it begin in me….and in you.

Job 6:8

job 6 8

We’ve all been there. Something that we are desperately seeking God for…an answer, a miracle, guidance, understanding. Whatever it is we long for God to grant our request. Job probably understood this feeling more than anyone. He was a righteous and Godly man, yet God allowed Satan to do havoc in Job’s life. In a single day we find that Job lost all his cattle, all his sheep and all of his children…yet still Job honored God. Satan goes back to God and whines that God has a hedge of protection around Job and if he removes it Job would curse God. So God allows Satan to take Job’s health also but does not allow Satan to take Job’s life. The Bible tells us that Job was covered from the top of his head to the sole of his feet with boils. Now that you know go back and read Job 6:8 again and hear the longing in Job’s voice.

King David also found himself longing for God to answer him. In Psalm 6:6 David says, “I am weary from my groaning; with my tears I dampen my pillow and drench my bed every night.” In Psalm 39:12, we read, “Hear my prayer, Lord and listen to my cry for help; do not be silent at my tears.”

Haven’t you been there too? But David not only wanted  answers…he wanted them quickly.  Read the following Psalms:

But you, O Lᴏʀᴅ, do not be far off! O you my help, come quickly to my aid! (Psalm 22:19) Make haste to help me, O Lᴏʀᴅ, my salvation! (Psalm 38:22)

Be pleased, O Lᴏʀᴅ, to deliver me! O Lᴏʀᴅ, make haste to help me! (Psalm 40:13)

You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! (Psalm 40:17)

Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O Lᴏʀᴅ, make haste to help me! (Psalm 70:1)

But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lᴏʀᴅ, do not delay! (Psalm 70:5)

O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! (Psalm 71:12)

O Lᴏʀᴅ, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! (Psalm 141:1)

When we find ourselves in a place where we long for God to step in and give an answer or help us in a difficult time, it’s important that we turn to the promises throughout the Bible.

Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

And Romans 8:28 says, “We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

For me, the waiting for God’s timing is the hardest. Like David, I want God to hurry up. It’s so hard to seem like you’re just sitting and waiting. However, its in these moment that God deepens your faith in Him and grows you to prepare you for His purpose. In the meantime, while we wait, we can trust him to supply our every need and that He will work everything out according to His plan and purpose…which is always for our good and is always the best plan. So keep praying. Don’t give up. But also know that God is always working, often in ways we cannot see, and when His answer is delivered it will be  the very best answer. David knew that. In Psalm 69:13 he says, “But as for me, Lord, my prayer to you is for a time of favor. In Your abundant, and faithful love, God, answer me with Your sure salvation. And because of God’s abundant and faithful love, we know that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). So as you long for and wait for God’s answer and God’s timing, take a moment and rest in his abundant and faithful love. Surrender your need…your dreams…your problems to Him and trust Him to work things out for your very best…even if the answer you get isn’t the one you wanted.

Oh…and for Job…his faithfulness to God was rewarded. In Job 42:12 we find God blessed Job with more sheep, cattle, oxen, and camels then he had before. Job also had seven more sons and three daughters. God will reward you in His own way for your faithfulness to Him. Just be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).

Philippians 2:9-11

philippians 2 9-11

Jesus. Just saying His name fills my soul with peace, casts out fear, replaces weakness with strength. Jesus. He fills all the lonely crevices, heals sickness, and heals broken relationships. Jesus. He brings salvation…casting out death, sin, and the grave. Jesus. His name washes over my heart and fills me with His presence. Jesus. His name fills my every longing and statifies my every need. Jesus. His name comforts, guards, guides, and protects. Jesus. He calms every storm. Jesus. He lights my paths and leads me into the way of everlasting. Jesus. He is holy, righteous. Jesus. He is my Redeemer, my Savior. Jesus. He listens when no one else does. Jesus. He hears every tear that falls. Jesus. He has the power to break every chain. Jesus. Death couldn’t keep Him. The grave couldn’t hold Him. Jesus. He knows my every fault and failure…but loves me anyway. Jesus. What a beautiful name it is….the name of Jesus Christ my King. Nothing compares. Call out His name right now.

Psalm 46:1-3

Psalm 46 1-3

In the days of King David, a fortified city meant safety and protection from all kinds of trouble. It offered refuge from all the dangers outside the fortress. The strength of the fortified walls kept out the enemies and wild animals. The people inside could lay down at night and sleep in peace because they trusted that the walls would protect them through the night. We too have a fortress…God. We can run to him for our refuge and hide behind his strength. No matter what comes our way, we have no need to fear because God is always in control. We can stand on His promises and know there is safety within the refuge of Him. Take your troubles, problems, and fears to him. Cast them at His feet. The God who created the universe (including you!) is never caught unaware or by surprise. Whatever you’re facing, God’s got this….let it go. Surrender it to Him. Then live in His peace.
