Fasting & Prayer for Revival: Seek God’s Face

Today we invite the people of God to join us in fasting and prayer for a revival in America. Beginning at 6 am we will be giving a focus area of prayer for each hour until 10 pm. Please join us each hour in prayer. This hour we are praying for God’s people to seek His face.

9 am Revival prayer focus:

This hour pray that God’s people will seek His face. Ask God to give us hearts that hunger and thirst for Him. That we would crave to know Him more, to understand His character, and to hear His voice.

Revival begins with God’s people.

To seek God’s face, is to seek His presence. Can you imagine being in God’s presence? Take a few moments and thing about people in the Bible who experienced the presence of God.

Experiencing God in the Old Testament

Adam and Even walked in the cool of the evening with God in the garden.

The Lord came to Abraham and made him a promise that he would be the father of many nations. On another occasion, the Lord visited Abraham to tell him what His plans were for Sodom and Gomorrah.

Hagar experienced Him in a desert when she and her son were banished from the family and out of water in the desert.

Moses experience the presence of God at the burning bush. When Moses was in the presence of God on the mountain for 40 days, he came back with his face shining so brightly that they had to put a covering over him.

The nation of Israel experienced him as a pillar of fire by night and cloud by day that guided them through the desert. Even after rebelling, God was with them through 40 years of wandering in the desert and their clothes and shoes never wore out. They always had food and water.

Ezekiel and John both had visions of heaven and the throne room of God.

Daniel experienced the presence of the Lord in the lion’s den. Jonah sought His presence from the belly of a great fish.

God picked up Elijah in a chariot of fire and took him to heaven.

God came to Elisha in a still small voice when Elisha was down, depressed, and burnt out.

Experiencing God in the New Testament

While Jesus was on earth, Mary (his mother) experienced Him as she cradled Him in her arms, watched him grow up, and gazed on Him as He hung on a cross. The disciples experienced Him as they followed Him. The Woman at the Well experienced Him as Living Water. Mary Magdalene experienced Him as her deliverer from demons. Lazarus experienced Him from inside a tomb. His sister, Mary, sat at His feet. The blind saw. The lame walked. The sick were healed. Multitudes experienced Him as he feed 5000 with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fish. The thief on the cross experienced Him in the last moments of his life and is now spending eternity in heaven with Jesus.

Paul experienced the Lord’s presence on the road to Damascus.

And John was given great visions of heaven while exiled to the Island of Patmos.

Over and over again we see the Bible filled people who experienced the presence of God. Each time, the came away from the experience a different person. What would it be like today if God’s people truly sought for and experienced His presence?

Why are we to seek His face?

More than anything else, God wants us to want to spend time with Him. Jeremiah 29:13 tells us that we will fin Him when we seek Him with all our heart. Seeking God is to get to know Him and we get to know Him through His Word. That is where we discover His character, His commandments, His instructions for how we should live.

Longing for His presence

Read the word of the Psalmist in Psalm 63:1-3: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” It is impossible to be in the presence of God without praising Him.

How do we seek God’s presence?

There are three basic ways we can seek Him. We can seek Him through His Word where we learn about His character and His instructions to us. We can seek Him through prayer to spend time with him and learn to recognize His voice for when He speaks to us. And we can seek Him through worship. When we truly worship Him, we feel His presence. Mary (Martha’s sister) sought the presence of Jesus and sat at His feet and listened to Him. What would it be like to sit at the feet of Jesus?!

Sometimes, to understand what something is, we need to know what it is not. Seeking God’s presence isn’t about coming to Him with our long list of wants and needs. Certainly, we need to bring these before God, but seeking His presence is different. We need to approach Him to experience and learn about His love for us out of our own love for Him. We seek Him when we truly want to know who He is and learn about Him. Seeking the presence of God is about wanting to know Him more than we want anything else.

What do we find in God’s presence?

When we seek God with all our hearts, we find Him showing up in our lives. We experience His blessing and favor. We bask in His love for us. He extends grace and forgiveness to us. We see His holiness and glory. The more time we spend in His presence, the more we reflect His character in our own lives.

Take a few moments right now and just close your eyes. Think about the various people in the Bible who experience God’s presence. Envision what it must have been like for them. Then envision yourself in a garden and in the cool of the day, God comes walking to you. As you sit together in the grass next to a stream, what do you talk about? What do you ask Him in order to get to know Him better? What do you need to confess to Him and seek His forgiveness? Imagine His tender, everlasting love and mercy for you. Then take a few moment and write in journal what this experience was like.

“The coming revival must begin with a great prayer revival. It is in the closet, with the door shut, that the sound of abundant revival will be first heard. An increase in the secret prayer of ministers and members will be the sure herald of blessing.”

Andrew Murray

Join us in prayer:

Father, how we long to experience your presence in our lives. We can be so guilty and want you to show up in your power and glory in our lives, but we don’t bother to show up in your presence. Fill us with a burning desire to seek your presence, to want to know you more than we’ve ever wanted anything.

Father, I also come to you interceding on behalf of all the people who are called by your name. Give your people a true desire to seek You with all their heart. Cause us to long for you as a deer longs for streams of water in a dry and weary land.

We also intercede on behalf of our nation. God give our politicians and government leaders a irresistible longing to know You. Call each one by name and draw them to you.

Father, we are here. The people called by Your name. Today, we come to You seeking Your presence. We desire to know You more than we desire anything else. Show us who You are. Teach us Your ways. How we long to just sit at Your feet and worship You. We long to discover You in Your Word. We long to recognize and hear Your voice. As we kneel before, bring us into your holy presence.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

1 Chronicles 16:11. Searching for God

Every day, the news is filled with stories of sorrow, pandemics, murder, and tragedy. Thankfully, there are some good stories mixed in as well. However, all the stories of sin and evil, combined with a pandemic, is enough to feel robbed of our sense of safety. Our feelings of security are ripped away as Satan laughs at the destruction he brings. As a result, many are left wondering where God is and if He is aware of what is happening down here on earth and if He even cares.

1 Chronicles 16:11 tells us to search for the Lord and His strength and to seek His face always. In a world full of sin and brokenness, the only place to find strength is in our relationship with Him. Our security is in the sacrificial death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus whereby we can believe on Him and have our sins forgiven.

As we place our faith and trust in Him, we become a new creation. The old sinful person is gone and a new creation emerges. Our “2.0” self comes complete with the love, joy, and peace of God while sin was deleted. It isn’t even in the “deleted files” to be recalled – just in case. Psalm 103:12 says that God has removed our sins from us as afar as the east is form the west. And in Jeremiahs 31:34, God says, “I will forgive their iniquity (sins), and I will remember their sin no more.”

As a forgiven, recreated, child of God, I have safety and security in Him. Psalm 91:4 says: “He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield.” That doesn’t mean that we will never face the trials and sorrows of this world. But it does mean that we are eternally protected and there is nothing Satan can do to us that will cause us to lose our eternal security that we have in Christ. In John 10:28, Jesus said, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” None of us know the moment our life will come to an end or how that will occur, but as a child of God, I know where I will spend my eternity. Do you?

While we can find peace, comfort and security in knowing we belong to God, there is a lost world who desperately needs Him. They are searching for Him. They feel a void in their souls and try to fill it with drugs, alcohol, sex, careers, hobbies, and anything else that will give them a few moments of joy. It’s up to us to bring them to Christ.

For as long as God has us (Christians) on this earth, He calls us to be salt and light to a dark, depraved, uncaring, selfish world filled with hatred and evil. We are to be His witnesses whether that it is in our home town, state, country or around the world. The truth of the matter is, this world is not going to improve until Christ returns and Satan’s day of rule and reign on this earth is over. That might sound rather bleak and depressing, but Revelation tells us this is exactly what’s to happen.

Because we know how the story ends and because of the amazing grace Christ showed to us, we should then go about our everyday lives sprinkling salt and light everywhere we go. God doesn’t want anyone to perish in hell. We should feel burdened for those who are lost and earnestly seeking God for a revival in our lang. Throughout history we have seen great revival awakenings occur when Christians humble themselves before God, pray and seek his face and turn from their sinful ways. When we do this, God promises in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that he will hear us from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land. If there is ever a time that America and all the nations around the world, needs healing and forgiving of sin, its now.

Many of us will pray for those lost  and wounded in this senseless act of evil, but will you also spend some time humbling yourself before God, praying for our nation and yourself and seek His face and turn from any sinful ways? Will you ask God to hear you, forgive you and our nation and heal our land? Ask Him to send a revival awakening and ask Him to let it begin in you.

Numbers 6:24-26. A Prayer of Blessing

Feb 21 Numbers 6 24-26

Our tongue is one of the the most powerful thing in the universe. And like most things of power, it can be used for good or bad. It can dish out curses or it can pour out blessings. It can be a weapon or it can be a healer. Our words matter.

In Numbers 6, God gave instructions to the priests to share God’s blessings upon God’s people. God intended for their words to change people’s lives, their families, and their futures – for the good. He instructed them to say:

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face to shine upon you; And be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (RSV)

What does this blessing mean? Let’s break down each line.

    • “The Lord bless you and keep you.” This statement was a prayer asking God to protect His people, sustain them, and guard them. In Matthew 18:10, Jesus said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father in heaven.” Jesus revealed that the angels watch over and guard the children on earth, and at the same time, they are looking at God’s shining face in heaven.
    • “The Lord make His face shine upon you.” This statement was a request for God to grant them His favor. God’s favor, or grace, is God giving us the ability to do something which is humanly impossible for us to do. The “favor of God” can be described as a divine kindness, or an act of true compassion on the part of God Himself toward needy and undeserving human recipients. Often in Scripture this act of God toward unworthy men or women is referred to as God’s “grace” – which means “the unmerited favor of God,” It also implies that God does not shine His face on everyone. He causes His face to shine on those who seek His face and want to be a blessing to Him.
    • “And be gracious to you.” To be gracious means ‘to favor,’ ‘to show kindnesses’ to an inferior, and ‘to be compassionate.’ It is God surrounding you with His steadfast lovingkindness. In Isaiah 30:18 it says, “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.” God is gracious because He is love. It is His character to love even if love is not returned to Him. He will give us good things because of His goodness. He extends favor, mercy, and kindness on whoever He pleases because it’s who He is.
    • “The Lord up His countenance upon you.” This is is a picture of a father smiling and taking pleasure in his child. When the Lord lifts His countenance upon us, it shows that He is looking on us for our good. It is him turning His face towards with with divine approval.
    • “And give you peace.” In other words, a tranquil heart and life – even in the midst of trails and the storms of life.

It is important for us to understand that these are not just words to be repeated like “God is good, God is great, let us thank him for our food.” These words were given by God to  the priests to say to the people – words that would being God’s literal protection, favor, love, approval and peace.

Were these words only meant to be used by Aaron’s sons, the priests? Today, we are a priesthood of believers as followers of Christ and we have the power and wonderful privilege to bless others with the words we say. By saying words of blessing over another person, we are in fact sending a supernatural blessing to the person over whom we speak those words.

Consider these verses that tell us about the power of our words:

  • Proverbs 11:9 “Evil words destroy one’s friends; wise discernment rescues the godly.”
  • Proverbs 11:12 “It is foolish to belittle a neighbor; a person with good sense remains silent.”
  • Proverbs 11:17 “Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel.”
  • Proverbs 15: 1 “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but hard words stir up anger.”
  • Proverbs 15:4 “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”
  • Proverbs 16:24 “Kind words are like honey–sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
  • Proverbs 18:4 “A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.”
  • Proverbs 18:20 “Words satisfy the soul as food satisfies the stomach; the right words on a person’s lips bring satisfaction.”
  • Proverbs 20:15 “Wise speech is rarer and more valuable than gold and rubies.”
  • Proverbs 25:18 “Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.”

What if because of the words we say, someone didn’t fulfill God’s plan for their life because we said it was an impossible dream?

What if because of the words we say, we make a child, friend, staff person feel like a failure?

What if because of the words we say, a lost person rejects Christ?

Our words have power.

What if when the crazy driver cuts you off you say words of blessing over them?

What if when your spouse says something hurtful you say words of blessing over them?

What if when your children leave for school you say words of blessing over them?

What if you tyrant boss makes you feel like an idiot and you respond with words of blessing?

What will the words you speak today bring to others – curses or blessing? Will you speak life?

Psalm 85:6-7

Will You not revive us again so that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your faithful love, Lord, and give us Your salvation.

Meditate and apply:

Will you commit to praying with us in 2020 that God will revive His people, renew our faith, and redeem our land? We feel such an urgency and desperation for revival. If God is moving your heart for revival, write your revival prayer in the comments along with your state or country.

  • How they can understand what they are or are not contributing to the marriage as well as how they might be contributing to problems or potential problems within the relationship through the use of targeted, intentional personal reflections
  • Why it is important that couples never stop dating and how group dates with Christian friends can be both an encouragement and accountability to their own relationship.

During the event, couples will be given an activity from each focus point to do together, making this event an interactive, fun, and engaging event with practical, hands-on learning. Unlike other couple events that are over when the event ends, couples who attend the GLMW event will be able to apply what they learn when utilizing the book on a daily basis for a year. Since the book is not dated, couples are able to reuse the activities year after year to continue being intentional in strengthening their relationship with each other and with God as they strive to live out God’s design for marriage every day.
