“We don’t want to get so caught up in the outward appearance of our bodies that we neglect the inside.”– Julia Bruce
“If we apply Matthew 23:27 to physical self care, we would not want the Holy Spirit living inside of us surrounded by “dead men’s bones and every impurity.”– Julia Bruce
“Look at the accusation Jesus makes in Matthew 23:27: ‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity.”– Julia Bruce
“It’s what’s going on inside the hearts of the people that make an eternal difference. We do the same thing with our bodies. We do everything we can to make the outsides of our bodies look the best we can while neglecting the inside.”
— Julia Bruce
Jesus described the scribes and Pharisees as beautiful on the outside, but on the inside they were nothing more than rotting, decaying bones. They painted a good picture of “righteousness” for everyone to see, but their hearts were full of pride and sin. Most of us don’t like people like that, but sometimes we are just as guilty.
